  • How come USED USA Jacksons r so cheap?

Over here in Oz a brand new USA Jackson retails for about $5,000 and 2nd hand between $2,500-3,000 and now that our dollar is so strong everyone is importing from the US to save bundles of cash!

So it's always been my dream to own a USA Jackson and I noticed on the Guitar Center site they are so CHEAP between $1,100-1,500!!!!

    Why is that?

Also what's the best American big guitar store websites to use for buying new/used jacksons?

    Cheers

P.s. I luckily paid $550 for my Charvel Model 6 here marked down from $1,100 just to show how cheap those USA Jacksons look compared to here! I think model 6's on average go on eBay for between $1,200-1,400 now.

Because they have shitty resale value?

Because there's a glut of unsold dealer stock at deep discounts?

Because people order guitars with specs that only a few people like (white lightning)?

The real answer is the Aussie dealers have been fucking you for years.

BRAND NEW USA Jacksons have been between $1800 and $2500 (give or take) for quite a while. The used market isn't going to be much over 80% of that, so you get used guitars in the $1100 - $1400 quite frequently.

Haha GrandTurk talks and a wild jazz noise appears!

Yeah tell me about video games are $100-$110 new here!

It was a big topic in the news over the Christmas period because everyone here is importing everything because most cases it's more than 50% saving!

We have a minimum of $1000 before we get slugged with an import tax, so most people ask the sellers to put the value as $800 .

Brand new zake wylde signature axe is $10,000 here haha

To summarize $1,200 will get you a brand new DK2 here but a US used model overseas!

Now I just gotta save up the cash

Do all standard US models have the mother of pearl logo?

Yeah they mostly move sideways or backwards in value, unless you happen to have one of those Shannon Doubleneck Pre-Pro Zoraxes.

Most do. One model that does not (consistently) is the RR1T.

Then on the other hand, tonemonster had the thread asking why sellers are asking such high prices for used Jacksons on Ebay. lol

The thing is, for the most part, I don't think they're selling at those high prices. To sell, they have to be in the price range the OP is talking about.

From my perspective, regardless of the brand, I try to buy used because I get guitars significantly less than new pricing. I really don't get the allure of buying new. If you ask the right questions, buying used can be fairly safe. Ironically, I had an issue with a used Jackson guitar I purchased last year, but even that worked out okay and turns out that is possibly my most favorite guitar I've ever owned. And I got it for about half of normal new street pricing.

Honestly, through mail order/internet, I much prefer buying used because you can get info on the characteristics of a specific guitar (weight, how good the top is, etc.) and it's not just treated like a commodity like at MF, AMS, etc.

The prices on new Jacksons are insane here in Europe too, and for a long time, the prices on the used ones were high here too, but lately, they've really gone down, at least here in Denmark. A few years ago you could actually buy a new Jackson in the states and sell it back here used for about the same. That you wouldn't lose or could even make money (not that I ever did) by stockpiling Jacksons is also a good way to convince girlfriends/wives that a big collection is a good idea "Honey, it's better than having money in the bank, I swear"

Wish we had someone with that much sense setting the VAT/import duty threshold here in the UK or EU in general. The bastards put a threshold of £18/€22 (or equivalent in DKK or SEK, depending on where you are) and start slapping on a 20% VAT past that and as soon as you go over the magic £145/€150 they also slap on the import duty on top of VAT. It isn't as if Jackson/Charvel/Kramer/Gibson or anyone for that matter produces ANY musical instruments in Europe (sorry Denmark, but even TC Electronic makes their stuff in Thailand, I'd know since I've had 4 rackmounts from them in the last two years). And Höfner makes acoustics only, which happen to be concert guitars (nylon-stringed) 85% of the time.

They are still hardily attempting to push for the socialist utopia here, ignoring basic facts. It's hard to live in a place run by alte kuckers.

If my RR1T didn't have the mop logo I probably would have just got myself an RR1. (Which I eventually did anyways hehe.)

why would you spend $2000 on a RR1 when you can get a used one for $1400!

My 2000 gunmetal gray RR1T has the MOP logo. My old black one from 2004 did not.
