Again I have to give a big shout out to Rob W. for selling me one of my two new additions for this week; and shipping it to the other side of the pond
This early San Dimas Kelly Custom was build for long time professional Charvel and Jackson photographer, Glen Laferman(Similar to Rick Gould).
Note that it has no controls on the face of the guitar, and factory Grover tuners.
(Have to overlook the fly on the fret board
The second of the two was a long time in the works.
I had been working on getting this one since 2008.
At one point I thought I had a deal sewn up in 2009; but it never materialized…as some of you guys that have been around a bit might remember the seller telling me he was declining my offer until such time as I could rephrase my offer in terms that were conducive to mature men conducting business.
Needless to say, my mouth ended up adding a substantial amount more to the final agreed price.
As hard as this may be to believe, this isn’t the first (and won’t be the last) time that my mouth has cost me extra.
In any case, she arrived Thursday.
Chris was cool enough to autograph the back control cavity cover for me and included an old 4x6 photo of him back in the day with the guitar.
He also included a few of his pics and the guitars original Seymour Duncan JBM humbucker (which I put back in).
When I got it, Chris had it set up with 9’s and dropped to “B” tuning.
He said he had been doing some recording with it lately with that tuning.
He also told me about the porno he played the guitar in back in 1989; Rock & Roll Heaven.
This guitar is one of only two regular (smaller) sized San Dimas Kelly’s made with cutouts according to what I have read…Chris recalls this as being the only regular sized Kelly of the 4 he had made for him.
In the end, Chris actually turned out to be a pretty nice guy.
I had not expected as much detail in the graphic and logo.
Here it is in some live action:
Here are some still shots from Rock & Roll Heaven (Work Safe):
(late 80's porn sux btw!)
Autograph and 4X6:
And the Rough Cutt guitars reunited (Amir Derakh and Chris Harer's):
And a few of them in their new environment:
