Re Fret info for a 1987 Jackson strat model

I have a 1987 Jackson strat. maple board. do they press the frets in on those? or were they slid in from the side of the neck? Just curious. I have read of both methods of installation in books. what size fret is good to replace it with? obviously jumbo, but arent there options for "jumbo" frets? and what tang size?

I am kicking around having it refretted and just want to educate myself on it before I bring it to a shop so I know what I am dealing with.
