Thanks guys - it's pretty cool. But it's still a headfuck to switch between necks smoothly, because the right hand goes for the switch and then tries to return to the neck it was last on LOL One thing I've wondered is why the necks aren't parallel on these. I figure I'm missing something stupid, but from a visual standpoint, parallel necks would be prettier.

I wouldn't be surprised if they won't do them any more. From a build perspective they must be a pain, and we've all heard the stories about the failures being flung off the factory roof (ouch!). I'm tempted to go back to gold and have 18 tuners in the case. But then I'd have to find a gold 12 string bridge....

I was a little concerned about the stability and asked a lot of questions about that before we agreed on the deal, plus I talked to previous owners. So far, I've not had any issues at all - I was a little concerned how it would react to me taking all the strings off both necks and then restringing, but it was good as gold. I guess it's had 23 years to settle, so the necks are pretty stable now.

I'm not sure as this is the only one I've had in my hands. I can certainly think of at least one bolt-on with sequential serials though.

    They're both the same.

Siamese h/s + parallel necks = wiiiide body.

Angling the necks allows for a more compact body, which could be preferred for a number of reasons:
      * aesthetics, sleeker styling - maybe the wider body didn't look so 'dinky' anymore?
      * smaller body, less mass, lighter
      * less distance for your right hand to reach the bottom neck & controls

whatever the reasons, I think it's cool as hell

Simply stunning! A siamese is on my wish list....along with a '59 LP

Cool shot of the headstock, never knew about the dove joint. BTW, is the Floyd at a non-recessed height? I can see the route for it, but can't judge if it's recessed or not.

Well spotted! It's at that late 80's height where there's a route under a face mounted bridge.

Buddy seriously awesome score! I have always wanted one but could never get myself to pull the trigger. Something about justifying the money and "I could get two of model x for the price of this one" etc... But I still think its on the top of my list and my hats off to you sir. I would love to see a video of her in action.

Gotta admit, I hadn't thought of that! I'm sure they could have done something to 'squeeze' the heads together a little more to minimise the width at the body though..

Another reason is that the siamese head stocks require a certain with to join them like they did. I have seen parallel necks with opposing faced heads that worked well in the design, and were not much, if any, wider than that.

                Nice score by the way.

Thanks Mike - there's a bit more room for a graphic on this one eh? LOL

Dual hums all the way, totally nice and would look fantastic with gold hardware.

You don't need a gold bridge for the 12 string section, that can stay black and it will look good still.

                        Cool guitar!

I wonde whether there is any tonal benefit in joining the necks at the tip, like increased resonance and sustain, wasn't that the purpose for those '80s Roland guitar synth guitars? add a stabilizer bar to even out possible dead spots?
