I have had a few SL2HT's and it took me awhile to figure out I don't like the control layout. It feels too cramped to me. Maybe I'm nuts but that did it for me.

Guitars are a personal choice so what people like is what they like. I have been playing professionally since 1964. I was into vintage Les Pauls from 1967 through 1984 and had loads of them. They did it for me until a friend who owned a music store spotted me in his place to get some picks. He told me I just had to try these new guitars he had and I was polite and did.
The guitars he wanted me to check out were Jacksons and I fell in love on the spot with the Soloist. I bought one that day and a couple more during '84-'86. The only one I bought that I didn't like was one of the earliest archtops. I prefer a Kahler to a Floyd, and that was the real issues I had with the archtop.
Like I said, guitars are a personal choice. For me, the Soloist is it. With the right pickups it's equal or better than anything I have played, and I have owned a played a lot.Last edited by 1fastdog; 09-04-2011, 06:58 AM.

I've never played a soloist tbh, never even seen one in person. :O I live in the boonies tho. But, I prefer bolt on necks usually, and more specifically, non painted necks. Painted necks just drive me insane. I understand you can just sand the paint off, I just did it to an epiphone. But it was a $400 guitar, not a $2000 guitar. I would feel like I was committing a crime if I sanded the neck of a soloist.I'm going to give you the keys to the Lamborghini

I played bolt-on's for decades. Only been playing neckthru's since 2008. Whenever I try a bolt-on in a shop, I don't like it. I will have to get used to playing both if I want to make use of a Roland guitar synth, as I can't afford both a USA Soloist and a synth at the same time.Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

You may be in your mid 60s, good sir?
A great history & review; let's see pics of your "vintage" Soloists!"Quiet, numbskulls, I'm broadcasting!" -Moe Howard, "Micro-Phonies" (1945)

I'd really like to hear how these older soloists compare to the new, especially the feel of the neck!!!! My future goal is to get a custom shop soloist, with the only custom option being the neck dimensions of a DK1. Seriously, I wouldn't change anything else.....just a black SL2H with a slightly different neck. I really wish Jackson USA would offer neck options on stock models to avoid HUGE custom shop fees for such minor adjustments.

I have a DKMG, a DK2M, two RR1:s and a CS SL1 and for different reasons I like them all,
but if i had to choose only one it would have be the CS SL1.
It's just a great allround guitar that plays exceptionally well.
Then again if I had a SL2H with the exact same specs as my SL1 except for the pickup
config. I would probably liked that one even better.
