I disagree. I absolutely HATED playing on my Rhoads, but the Kelly is my favorite. The Rhoads sucks to play sitting down, unless you want a point in your crotch and the neck pointed straight up in the air. (I dunno, some of you may like that! )

You may be in your mid 60s, good sir?

A great history & review; let's see pics of your "vintage" Soloists!
        I'm 60.

I'd have to root through some boxes of crap to find pics from the '80's that would show the '84/'85/'86 Soloists. Mmmmm... Here's a couple of context pics.

This one is a stadium gig and I'm playing a 1954 Lester which I like a lot. I put a set of double white bobbin PAF's I bought which came out of a badly broken '58 335.. It was one of many golden era LP's I played at one point or the other. It was a good plank through a Hiwatt:

This is the same guitar when I had it refinished at Strings and Things in Memphis a couple of years prior to the previous shot:

This is a shot with my early Ontario Soloist. This shot may look like I'm hanging out at a Christmas party, and it was actually, but it was a music industry thing < and no I'm not famous by any stretch >:

I never cared for where Grover put knobs, as you can see. The pickups that came in the guitar were thrown away. Tim Mills from Bare Knuckles did the single coils and MJ at Seymour's shop wound the Humbucker. It's a good plank. I wish I could tell you the serial number but the endoresement pieces didn't get one.

Thanks for the nice compliment. I generally just lurk and stop by here to see what the faithful are up to.

Yes, and he could play it behind his head too, but that doesn't mean it's comfortable!

I had a 1958 Flying V and I can relate to it being "different to sit and practice with.

I have a pal that has a number of Kelly's. I have another friend that loved them too, as he was a bit of an Explorer fanatic and the Kelly was somewhat a hotrod Explorer... At least that's how I see them.

I wonder if it is hard for rhythm players to bond with a Soloist?

I dont see why they wouldnt. So they dont need the upper fret access, the neck profile, action and sustain are all still key to ease of playing and good tone.

Sorry, Twitch, I was being stupid and sarcastic with the soloist name and rhythm thing.

But since you took the time to answer, I agree it shouldn't make a difference. A great guitar either way.

Damn, I didnt even catch the juxtaposition of rhythm and soloist. Must be off my game today.

You look kind of like Tommy Emmanuel in that pic.

I have known Seymour Duncan for years and he is a very nice man and can play more than a little. I'm not sure folks here have seen this pic but thought it might suggest that not everyone that spanks a Jackson fits a particular mold.... A great guitar is a great guitar. < looks more like a Dinky than a Soloist >

I wonder if those Dimarzios in Yngwie's strat and probably that Ibanez are putting a little "aggression" into Seymour's playing here.
