Jacksons pre-fender vs now, a bunch of BS?

Literally every company's followers always seem to be on the bandwagon trains.

"the good old xxx were much better"

I see this from people about literally every guitar and amp company I can think of. I think they are just on bandwagons and spreading lies most of the time and most of these people didnt even play the "ole" ones in the first place to compare.


In this case, what do you think? Have JAcksons went downhill after the Fender buyout or are people just spouting BS and riding bandwagons?

I've heard from many unbiased people that the post buyout ones are more consistent and in ways better. I only have experience with a single old one so I can't comment on consistency and new ones.

Well, post Fender buyout should be no problem because there are many old Jackson/Charvel builders back in the factory who were there even before the International Music Corporation(IMC) and Akai Musical Instrument Corporation(AMIC). In IMC years most of the factory employees are fired and quite a lot of production moved to Japan, Korea and India. IMO, the only bad thing after the Fender buyout is that they won't make any Firebirds, Roundhorns and Explorers anymore.....

My pre- and post Fender RR1's are roughly equal in built quality and both are about as bad-ass as a guitar can be. The only person that cares is a person trying to get more money out of a sale. Either the guitar is put together right or it isn't. For somebody who buys guitars to play them, what company owned the brand at the time is really meaningless after that fact.

Seeing as I own many post buyout Jacksons I'm gonna talk them up as much as possible.

Well I don't care about selling a pre-Fender Jackson, I only buy them, but I have played and OWN several Pre-Fender and post Fender Jackson's and I can tell you it isn't BS! I'll give a specifics. On my new 2010 KV2 grounding problem sent it back. Got a 2009 KV2 the eblony fret board has a ding in it from the factory and made a horibble buzz when the volume pot was turned down. Sent it back to get the pot fixed n sent the other back for replacement. Two RR1's from 1990 and 1995 are by far and away better in quility than 3 or 4 new KV2's, Kelly's or Soloist I've played. Played a new KV2 a while back b4 I got into Jacksons and almost got turned off. Then I played a RR1 from 95 and fell in love. The quility in the ebony, construction, and so on seem to me to be better. More QC on the end of things I guess. I could be wrong and yes there are thousands of more guitars than I have played, but my limited numbers have cemented this into my mind! I've never seen a pre-fender I didn't like, but I've played and seen alot of post fenders that gave me headaches to fix?

Normal ebony is NOT uniformly black. It's usually more on the streaky side, and a lot of companies dye their fingerboards.

I prefer the neck profile on my pre-Fender SL1 versus my post-Fender SL2H. The Ebony on the pre-Fender looks a bit nicer as it is darker and more uniform. My pre-Fender is a bit lighter than the post-Fender. Other than that they are identical in workmanship and playability. Or were as I got rid of the heavier post-Fender.

It is all B.S. In fact, from what I have seen, I think they are better. AMIC, to me, were the days Jackson had its most issues.

I have seen A LOT of really good post buyout Jacksons that are phenomenal guitars. Very Well built. I love my 2007 SL2h.

It is all hype honestly. Since I buy my guitars new usually I would be more than satisfied buying a new Jackson USA Soloist blind. In addition to ESP, Suhr, Ibanez, and PRS, they are one of the few companies I would buy a new guitar blind from.

But there were bad guitars made on both ends. Don't let a couple of bad ones represent about the entire line. Most people I talk to who own Jacksons love the new ones.

This is actually very true. Rarely is Ebony that consistent. I actually prefer it not to be, as it looks more "real", so to speak.

I think they are mostly of the opinion that they like getting lots more money and free guitars than they were getting from Jackson, regardless of ownership.

Mustaine especially, as he is a long-time master at maintaining extra income streams: In addition to MD touring & album sales, and starting Gigantour, MegaDave also jumps at doing music for movies & video games. So having a bunch of guitars to sell at auction once in a while just makes good business sense. Recall also that Dave's occupation in the early 80s was "drug dealer" , he did get alternate income sources in the early days of Metallica.
