  • What can you fellas tell me about this? DK1 ?

Its been a long time since i picked up a jackson. (probably high school ) Ive been playing les pauls for a few years and i was starting to crave a superstrat style guitar.

I ended up winning an ebay auction, and im not entirely sure what this is, its another one of my classic hasty and impulsive purchases :/ i just hope this one cleans up nice and becomes a nice player

It looks to me like an older (but how old) USA DK1. From the looks of it, its usa built jackson. Its a usa bolt on neck, the neck plate has san dimas markings. Its an H-H, but this one has a kahler. There is no routing for a floyd so it seems the kahler is original.

The paint seems questionable, possibly a respray, im not sure yet. I wont know till I actually have it.

    pics-

These are the only pictures I have from the auction. I'll get some better pics once i get it. If theres anything you guys can tell me about it, let me know. I would appreciate it!!!!

It's a strat from the mid 80's which has been abused. The graphic is most likely original.
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Thanks alot for the quick reply! So would the body be a 7/8 scale type? or would it be a sized more like a conventional strat?

This purchase was a big gamble, my fingers are crossed that the neck isn't twisted or anything major is wrong with it.

          Probably full sized strat body.

I saw the auction, and I remember looking up the year and finding out it was a 1983. Pretty sure in the auction it said the serial was 2208. I could be a little off, but I remember that the # put it as a 1983.

Good luck with it, and let us know how it is when you get it!

Thanks Ward! You are correct, it is 2208, I didnt realize it was quite that old! I'm hoping that the graphic is original as neilli suspects. I cant wait till it arrives, I'll let ya know how it goes!

fwiw, when they talk about Dinkys being 7/8th the size of a strat, they only mean the body dimensions. The scale is generally still 25 1/2"

2203 would make it an 86-88 model.Super strat body (full size)San Dimas plates were used up thru 89.
1501 was the last official bolt on SD serial number.I have 1499 it was ordered in 85 and shipped in 86.
                          Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Are these 80's Jackson san dimas guitars production models? or would this have been a custom shop order type thing?

They had no official production line until 1990.
Most were custom ordered and I'm sure they made a bunch to have on hand to sell to dealers for stock.
These guitars were some of the best Jackson made during that time, rock solid players.
                              The necks are awesome IMO.
Depending on what you paid for it whether or not you got a good deal or not.
I have #1987 I paid $500.00 and its an incredible guitar.
I've had 6 or 7 SD plated Jacksons and all were fantastic.Paid anywhere from $350.00 - $500.00 for each well worth the money IMO.
