My lacquer necks do this, and I clean them with a paper towel and naphtha and wash my hands before I play them, and they work well enough.

I find that my painted necks like my Soloist and other poly-finished necks feel better if they are clean, but not TOO clean. Just a dry rag, wiped down well but not cleaned with any kind of solution or polish or chemical. That is, take a soft cloth and wipe off much of the oil and gunk that is on the neck, but leave just a hint of smeariness to it, and it won't feel sticky or gummy but has just enough oil from your hands to still feel slick. Works for me. :dunno:

Absolutely! The only reason I order mine is because I get designs on them. A $3 pair of cotton gloves with the fingers snipped off would work just as well. Sock idea is pretty clever too!

I tried cleaning, polish, wax, all kinds of shit, nothing worked and the guitars was not getting any playtime, they just sat there on the wall, staring at me...
After thinking alot I took a sheet of 1200 grit and gently scuffed the back of the neck on both of them and it worked.
I know they eventually will return to glossy finish just by me playing them, but the paint seems thick enough for doing it many, many times and still have enough left if I would like to polish them back to stock finish.
I used to love the old glossy necks (like on the early Professional series) until I played a nice satin neck. The JS necks had turned me off to satin...they always felt too cheap and poorly made to me compared to my guitars. Now I satin the necks on all my stage guitars.

The 0000 steel wool does pretty much the same exact thing. Some guys on other forums had suggested the wool over sand paper though due to the sand paper clogging the pores of the wood. I can't imagine it really there being a huge difference between the two, though.

Some of those soloists with the necks made satin looked killer. Our other guitarist is a painter so he would be good at stripping the pant with a good taped angle at each end and then sand lightly for staining. If it was like my DK2M that would be great and I always like customized stuff when it's done right.

You won't catch me with gloves on ever. Not that I got a problem with anyone els doing it just not for me. Still Gonna try the powder trick too cause that will cut down on the acid that comes from my hands and kills my string faster than you can say GHS Boomer's. I us DR strings now with the coating and they sound great and last way longer for me.

It's a curse I have hands that will sweat and get sticky more than most anyone I know and it was not an issue when I played Bass in the same band I have been in over 20 years but we lost lead guitarist and I took his place as I had once been a guitar player. I'm learning at fast pace but man so much more complicated with the amps and effects for the leads and the wha pedal on and on. I have allot of mechanics to learn aside from just playing the instrument properly. But I ain't playing nothing but Jacksons Love fender basses hate their guitars. I know they own Jackson and I know my DK2M is just a supper strat accept for it has the simple two hum-bucker design like the X series has now but with the JB and the sh pups. That JB along with a Boss m-25 and my 1968 traynor YBA-3 no Master Volume 200 watt / 6550 Converted and it screams with marshal cabs with the gt 75's.

The other guitar player in my band has a problem with his hands sweating really bad. I would also make sure you are wiping off the fretboard and conditioning it. His fretboards get that residue on them and it kills his strings faster than me. Damnedest thing.

For real sweaty hands, they make a contraption that you can soak your hands in which uses a low electric current (battery operated) that inactivates the sweat glands in the hands. It's temporary, but it lasts a month or so until the body makes new ones. My friend's wife used to use one.
