Sorry to be a downer, but what exactly is the point of this thread? I could name a beaucoup of guitar/pickup combinations I've had over the years, but how exactly would that be helpful? Every guitar is different, which will lead to varying choices...and pickup selection is very subjective in and of itself.

2008 SL2H - EMG 81X/85X. Still on the fence about these - nice thick tone but rather low output and silly dynamics (as in abnormally fast note decay and one needs to strum real hard to produce the tone). It's better now I scrapped the solderless system but still not quite what I'm hoping for. Perhaps a preamp to boost the gain back to 'active' levels (my D-Activators on a bolt-on Ibanez RG are about twice as hot :P )
