I'm getting it set up a bit better, and it's a nice player. This board is messing with my head though, the feel is ebony-ish. Here's an indoor shot of it with a lot of light. Note the pits that go with the grain that you can barely see there at the 7th fret, almost like tiny razor slits. There are also dark streaks through the board. The pits became less pronounced after I oiled the board, and almost became invisible (the board was bone-dry when it arrived). I'd love for some expert opinions.

The ebony on my strathead looks just like that on about 1/3 of the neck at the bridge pickup, it's not really noticeable unless you look closely. By the 12th fret, it's black without any pores or grain. So if the rest of the board looks like ebony it probably is. Ebony can be nearly pure black, the color of rosewood or even blonde.

It comes down to the feel. Does it feel like ebony?

I honestly have felt one (This being the board on my PRS) rosewood board that even approached the smooth feel of Ebony.
