After much searching, and many choices, I pulled the trigger on this 2007 Jackson Soloist SL1;

Sounds and plays amazing, this is my first USA Soloist.

I just installed a set of EMG S/S/81 Nice sound
I'll keep the original pups, they sounded really good too.

I just got Black SL1 with EMG's also. It simse that EMG's are a little too big for it though. I got the action pretty low on it but it simse that it could go even fruther, but the big EMG momma is on the way. I guess without cutting little dipper into the wood you can't get it down to "medium pick" action.

You have to make the cavity a little deeper for the EMG, but not much. I kept my action pretty low, the way I like it.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing to mine (i.e install EMGs). I've only recently discovered EMGs - was always a passive pick up guy in the past - and have wondered if it would be the ultimate guitar set-up for me.
