Y'know, if it was just a run of the mill production model guitar, I think I would have tried to tackle it myself or have a tech set it up for me. But if I'm going to drop 2k on a guitar, I would demand that that guitar be just the way I want it when walk out the door with it. A simple "I'll buy this if you have it set up" is what I would say. If they want to sell it bad enough, I'm sure they would be happy to eat a $45.00 set up job to sell a 2k guitar. If they won't do it, I would walk out without a guitar. I've done it before and they stopped me in the parking lot and agreed to it.
+1 my local L&M automatically does this, you buy it and you pick it up then next day sparkly perfect.
I have bought many Jacksons new and used. Some in stores locally and others from E-bay and while I don't doubt that your KV-2 has the issues you mentioned, jackson tends to have the best factory setups of any manufacturer I've tried. They may not be absolutely perfect depending on climate and personal preference but I have yet to receive a USA Jackson that I couldn't just take out the case and gig it live that night.
You never mentioned if this KV was buzzing at the first fret before you set it up? Was it buzzing and got worse after the setup? Or, did the buzz appear only after the setup? Or, it was there but remained unaffected by the set up?
the buzz was there before the setup i thought it just needed a neck adjustment ....but that didnt take care of the buzz...i can lower the floyd almost all the way down and and it doesnt buzz on any of the other frets ,just the first fret on every sting but if i do that the first fret is unbarable so i have to have the action a little high ....the guitar is going back tomorrow .either they fix it or it stays there ..its too bad cuz it really is a nice guitar...haha i have never bought a new guitar before ..not a good way to start
Thats really odd for a USA Jackson to buzz like that. Assuming everything else is setup right, is there a shim under the locking nut? If not, it could be as simple as adding a slight shim under there to eliminate the first fret buzz.
Actually didn't someone else have a ground hum issue on a kv2 awhile back? Try searching the forums with those keywords.
As for fret buzz ill put money on it it's not a lemon guitar. You might have set it up but I have atleast 20 usa jacksons with floyds and never had an issue with frets. I always check for high spots using a fret rocker and neck straightness using a stewmac level.
I imagine the neck has a little back bow. Use your straight edge to check.
Between all the gurus here we will get that kv2 playing better than anything you have.
I took a '90 RR out of it's case for the first time in forever just recently and did a fret level/crowning. Even though it had some rock here/there, hey it's over 20 years old and it probably was perfect when I got it, it took the least amount of passes with the level bar that I've ever had a guitar need. I was really impressed.
..i set all my guitars up myself and for friends (i no what im doing lol)
If that's really the case, you really should know how to tell what the issues are. All I can say is that you have 'no' (note the proper homonym here) idea how to properly set a guitar up, nor gauge a guitar for it's playability. That said, I hope you can have someone that really 'knows' (again ...) what they are doing have that guitar playing proud for you.
so i always wanted a king v but never had the cash to buy one.I was at my local music store and saw a white usa king v so i put it on credit ,got it home set it up and this is what i got .....bad buzz on every string at the first fret ,bad ground hum when not touching strings....and when i removed the covers on the back the routed part where the covers screw to are bare wood , it looks like they painted the guitar then routed it for the covers..and i wasnt very impressed with the action....i set all my guitars up myself and for friends (i no what im doing lol)
has anybody else had these kind of issues....i know i can fix the ground problem i will just rewire the whole guitar but i didnt think i would have these kind of problems with a 2k guitar.....i am going to take it back at let the store deal with the issue befor i touch any thing .....i think the first fret buzz is a low nut or a high fret hope the tech can figure it out cuz i love the feel and the sound of it
You never mentioned if the guitar was new or used.

so i brought the guitar back to the store today....where i live it is very cold ,today was -26c ..the guitar went from house to warm car to store ...when i opened the case at the store the fret board had cracks all over it ...i couldnt beleive what i was seeing ...anyway!!!! the tech said that has happened with jackson before because it is so dry here ...he said he will fix all the issue with the guitar and give me 300 dollars off the price.....hmmmmm should i still buy it .....or just just let them keep it...i guess i will see in a couple days when its all fixed up....a friend of mine has 3 usa jacksons that he got from pawn shops .i gave all of them basic setups when he bought them and they were all perfect not one issue with any of them...i guess i was naive to think if i bought a brand new one it would be the same quaility...oh well lesson learnt.....
thanks to everyone who said something intelligent
oh ya ...for the guy who gave me the english lesson ...here is a math lesson for you ....take the word homonym take away the last 3 letters and the answer is 'you' .... but thanks for the post

Well we're just having a gay ol' time now!
(That's a homonym too, right? I never really was good at math.)
Dude, don't come to a forum, ask for help in an extremely poorly written fashion and then slam on people for messing with you about it. There is a ton of helpful information to be found here and a lot of people willing to share their knowledge. Be respectful. Seriously.
