That's definitely not the ugliest Jackson ever made. Not even close.

Most people here actually liked it when pictures of it were first released, if I remember correctly. xP

And $1600 for that is pretty cheap, but it's definitely not worth anything close to $5k. That is the crack pipe price.

If all of my guitars had to look exactly like this CS in order to be able to play 5% of what Jason used to play I wouldn't last 2 seconds doing the general makeover...hell I would even have my wife custom painted with color numbers just to have that 5%.

No complaints from me about the guitar.
I like it and think it's a cool looking piece.

The complaints would come for the person who thinks they are going to get $5k it.

I'm guessing the neck is shimmed, because the treble side of the neck pocket shows a pretty big gap? The front screw for the neckplate seems to be seated at an angle also.... AND, there's no way those strings don't buzz with the current set up on it. BUT possibly the strangest thing, is why is there a 3rd eye blind truss rod cover(was Becker a fan? I doubt it, I'm pretty sure his ALS was in full effect when they started out?)

love the guitar. Always have since I read Jason's interview in GW. $1600, totally worth it IMO. just look at the wood grain on the fretboard! but $5K is indeed crack price.

Ebay has these "list for free" days when listing is free. Also, if you post your pics on a website like photobucket, you can just add the links and there are no picture insertion fees either. So, he has nothing to lose to list the item. And the way collectors are buying up stuff, I would not be surprised if it sold for the full asking price.

the head of the neck plate screw does appear angled, because of the contouring on the body behind the heel. The angle of the wood at the back of the heel means that the head of the screw is always going to sit high on one side. Only way I could see to make it tidier would be to recess the screws. Then the bottom of the recess would be parallel with the neck pocket and the head of the screw would sit straight in it.

I'm not real familiar with Third Eye Blind and the logos they have used. That symbol is the Third Eye Chakra. Google it and you'll see lots of applications of it that have nothing to do with the band.

What a weird one-off? I remember when before he was diagnosed that was going to be the guitar Peavey signature model and I remember that they pulled it when news of his ALS diagnosis hit. Though it wasn't explicitly stated, it seemed they were leary of being associated with a known musician who had a recently diagnosed serious illness. Too bad - I don't think anybody expected Jason Becker to still be alive in 2012. ALS is usually a very grim diagnosis and it still affected him for the rest of his life. That Paradise guitars limited reissue I don't even think I ever saw one of them. I wonder if this Jackson was an employee guitar or a custom order someone commissioned and wasn't able to keep or had to sell etc. Very odd.

One thought about the high price: someone needs money and their spouse is demanding they sell and so they're pricing well above market so as to not have any takers.

I just had another thought: the hang-tag gives a date of 9/29/06. This was a year or so before the Paradise reissues were first announced. I wonder if the Becker family approached several guitar manufacturers in order to see who would best be able to build a signature model and Jackson was one of the manufacturers approached. I'm sure there's a more interesting story behind this one than it appears.

Personally, for me it would be too hard to play a guitar so visually associated with a name player. It would be like playing an Eddie Van Halen red/white/black striped Kramer. Cool, but for the guy who first came up with the idea. I'd rather come up with my own signature look/idea.

I think it was less that they were leary about being associated with an ALS sufferer, and more that they were about to release a signature guitar for a musician who was about to have almost no musical profile. He wouldn't be playing concerts, clinics, appearing on magazine covers & ads or otherwise promoting his new guitar for much longer. As you said, no one expected Jason to still be alive in 2012, including his doctor & family. Life expectancy is generally 3 to 5 years.

This guitar wasn't an employee instrument. As the auction said, it is one of a number of prototypes. Around 10 years ago Jackson were asked to build it and did a couple for Jason's approval. fwiw, WAY hotter than the Paradise version - it had a super goofy headstock
