The Duncan Iommis looked like that, but that wouldn't be 'era correct'. Actually, don't the 'El Diablo' Scott Ian pickups look like that too?

What's really burning my biscuits is I'm dying to know if the bars on the pickups are rails or just a cover over pole pieces...

Would those pickups be Schallers? I had one like that years ago, with the chrome and rounded rails. I'm pretty sure the Ibanez rail HB had three suspension screws.

I remember seeing a pic of him playing that guitar backstage (or in some kind of non-live show setting). Neat to see.

Hellraiser, when I spoke to Dan last fall he had mentioned to me that he was either working on or was just finishing up one for Vivian. Do you have any pics of his GMP?

Not X2n. pickups appears to be encased in epoxy, or...(?)
just below the the top bobbins. Older X2n's would have
a wire hole at the end of the bobbin as well if this guitar
from that time period. Viv sure has them backed off
quite a bit in the LP as well.

That's helluva cool, and helluva rare. Thanks for sharing.

                Is it a neck-through?

They look just like the pickups I had in an Aria Pro II Knight Warrior.

Yes it is a neck-thru (J Serial numbers are all neck thru) and I believe it was Mahogany/Maple. It was freekin' HEAVY as hell, probably around 11 pounds.

Vivian did use Aria guitars early on so maybe he took a liking to whatever they put in those.

I don't think the guitar is done yet....I will get some for sure when it's finished.

Funnily enough I still have the original pickup from my Aria Knight Warrior, which back in 1984 I replaced with a Fury ZP-20. (Wound with pride in Saskatchewan! ) The Aria pickup similar but different. You can see a couple small holes in the bobbins and other differences, such as the metal bar ends being rounded off versus squared on the Aria.

Funny, I still have the whole guitar...just can't seem to part with any of my gear. This was my very first guitar...just pulled it out of the case for these shots. It's been in there for at least 10 years without opening, strings are definitely old, but amazingly the thing was still in tune....

My main complaint with this guitar was always snapping strings on the bridge saddles. It just seemed to be too sharp of a pinch point so I avoided the bar completely.

And yeah....Pretty boring compared to some of the stuff he had.
This guitar has NOTHING to do with Fender.

Is that similar to the guitar Vivian had in the "rainbow in the dark" video?
