IIRC there have been some J-serials done with set-necks. And it is a LP, so couldabeen.

Very cool guitar, either way. A rare piece of J/C history.

Well, if true , that's definitely news to me....I don't know of any serialized Jackson set neck guitars ever being made.

Sure it's possible, but I'm not aware of any. I can't even think of why they *would* make a set neck guitar since they made their mark with neck-thru's.

Can you give me an example??....you have me curious now

In any case this guitar (J0006) was definitely a neck thru, I looked it over pretty carefully.

I can't give you any specific serial numbers to look up, if that's what you mean. But, IIRC, the very earliest Soloist prototypes were set-necks. (Although I'm not sure these were serialized.) Also, pretty sure there have been several custom arch-tops done through the years with set-necks.

But, yeah, probably 99%+ have been neck-throughs. ...And you would likely know this stuff better than I.

It IS very similar! In fact Vivian also got a flat-black (no clear) 1 hum Charvel Strathead at the same time... looked almost exactly like a 'Wildcard' Pro-mod. Here:

J0006 was a little different from his Gibby with it's Kahler, maple board w/dots and no binding ....

Honestly In my *opinion* it was probably something he 'wanted' but when received.... it fell way short of the mark.

It was very HEAVY, it was in a different scale(25.5 as opposed to Gibson scale) and it didn't play like a 'Les Paul' should. IMO it didn't feel 'right' at all, and I WANTED to love it!!

He also got several Charvel Strats around this time that he liked better.

That neck looks like it's got black binding. Sure looks like the original-style binding over the fret edges in your last pic.

I think the "epoxy" on the pickup is petrified Vivian Campbell finger cheese.

A flat black LP with maple FB and dot inlays? meh. Send it to Dan Lawrence and have him paint a Last in Line graphic on it, and put some upside down black cross inlays to replace the dots. Then we'll be talking.
Sometimes the best sounding stuff is the most basic. My favorite guitar is a simple oiled mahogany body charvel. It's not surprising for Viv to have something so basic and I think it makes it kind of cool. Besides, look at the serial number. that in itself is historical

I know, but when you think of the good old Vivian (now his current evil twin) you think of really flashy over the top stuff. Going into this thread, I was expecting to be "WOWed" by what I saw. It was sort of a let down, that's all.

You mean like poser stuff? I wonder if anyone has ever formulated the correlation between ability and flash............

Watching that video reminded me of two things. 1. Carmine Appice is a killer drummer. Maybe a hair less talented than Vinnie, but still an awesome rock/metal drummer. 2. I was a giant Vivian Campbell fan when he was with Dio but his live tone was HORRID! The only live show I've seen where he sounded good was that Philly Spectrum show.

I thought you bought a Jackson so you didn't have to play a LP, ffs...
