He already said he originally brought the guitar into an authorized service shop and they deemed it within spec. What was he to do?

A lot of places will hit you with a 15 to 20 percent restocking fee. And his wife got some kind of deal and it might have been unreturnable or something.

If one authorized service location said it's within spec and it had that kind of problem I'd try and find somewhere else for a second opinion. Maybe the first place just didn't want to bother?

I could have returned the guitar but it wasn't that bad when I first got it. It had setup issues and I was able to get it close to where I like it when it was new. This guitar has no finish on it. Because of that the neck tends to move a little more then one that's finished. This caused the frets to unseat themselves. I'm certainly not going to try and return the guitar two years later.

The guitar was purchased directly from Jackson through an authorized dealer using the dealer employee purchase plan. The only restriction using this method is you can't sell the instrument for one year after purchase.

The only service center near me has gone down hill in recent years. I don't bring them anything anymore. When they said the guitar was within spec I was more then happy to take it back. I dont trust them to fix it anyway. I have several killer guitars so I didn't really give this one too much thought for a while.

Recently I noticed my Wolfgang frets were getting pretty worn. I called philtone about regretting the Wolfgang and mentioned my issues with the Jackson. He said bring them both down. I was surprised to see just how bad the fretwork on the Jackson had become. It's getting fixed so I can start playing it.

Yes, but most are smart enough to have something done about it instead of sitting on a newly purchased one for two years without getting satisfaction. Even if your local dealer said it was within spec, anyone in their right mind would have gotten a second opinion if it's as bad as what has been stated here. I'm also sure that if Jackson itself were contacted and made aware of how discontent you are with your local dealer that other arrangements could have been made. There's absolutely no other dealer it could have been repaired by? Maybe another dealer wouldn't have been as convenient to you as your local one but how inconvenient is it compared to the inability to play a brand new guitar for two years because of an issue with it when it was purchased brand new? I'm not one that's just gonna accept what's being said here when it's so obvious a blind man could see that there's something not being told about the whole deal. If the wife got it on some kind of deal that stated it couldn't be returned it would have been stated so by now. If it couldn't be returned what was the reason? Was it a factory second?

You don't understand? Ask yourself, would you sit on a brand new $2400 guitar with issues for two years and not get it straightened out with the manufacturer, or would you get it fixed? Why not get it fixed? Like I said above, even if your local dealer doesn't measure up, that's not the end of the road. Personally I'd be pretty pissed if it was really as bad as it's been made out to be. The only reason I can think of that it wouldn't or couldn't be returned or repaired by the manufacturer or a dealer/representative is if it's a factory second. If that's the case, then he should just say so. And all that isn't even taking into account that he says "his wife is in the biz"? Doesn't seem that hard to grasp to me.
