  • Pickup recommendations for my RR1

Hey guys. I picked up an RR1 last week to replace my long lost blue one I sold a while back... Major mistake but you know how that goes. The job and the jazz in the one I have picked up seem pretty, well lifeless compared to the old RR1's I had. Any recommendations for me? Im starting to wonder if it's the pickups or just a poor wiring job, but everything look great when I looked in the cavity last night. Forgive me BTW for not having many posts. I've been a member here for a pretty long time reading mostly.

I've got a Duncan Parallel Axis Distortion in mine (PATB-2) and love it, as I wanted something pretty hot. The parallel trem-spaced poles line up perfectly. The JB that used to be in it was actually pretty good, though, and I'm not normally a big fan of the JB.

I was deffinetly thinking about a Duncan distortion or a Duncan custom. I'm not an active guy but I need an 80's shredder tone

The Duncan Custom blew me away in the RR1. At his point it is my go to pickup for a balanced guitar.

Are you using a custom in the neck too?

If you want 80's, ask Jim at WCR pickups for the "M' special...

No, the Jazz is well enough for me in a duncan combo.

hmm. Well I plan on adding a floyd upgrades brass block to it when I get back. My last rr1 had it so I'm wondering if this is why this one sounds a bit, "sterile" for lack of a better term. It plays very nice acoustically though. So I'm not to worried about it. Just need to get it dialed in

+1. The Jazz is a great neck pup that works well paired up with anything.

Yeah +1 I think I need to throw some high output pups in here. It's also time to get my 6505+ retubed. Things always Go at the same time!

I guess I should have mentioned... I like my tone VERY saturated with gain.
