  • NGDs: Jackson Custom Shop Soloist & King V 7 strings

So I had the awesome chance to acquire these and decided to get them. How often do CS7s come up in the wild - very very very rarely. With the CS now taking 18+ months due to their backlog (unless your Bulbasaur) I figured I needed to get both.

The Soloist Archtop is a great guitar and the punchiest for metal I've ever owned. It's the standard alder+maple combo but man with the Blackout Neck in there it just sounds insane on the third channel of the MarkIV. It vibes really well with the Mark IV. The BO Neck is also a surprise as you can turn it down volume wise and get really nice clean tones or even have the signal clean up pretty well. On the clean channel it's a great clean.

The King V is normally not a shape I'd gravitate towards however this guitar was just calling me towards it. It's a 3pc mahogany neck and wings with ebony and was made for COW from Fear Factory. It sounds massive through the Mark and is surprisingly pretty awesome to play as well. I've tried RR models in the past and never found the shape to fit me. This KV shape has the forearm position on it very close to where soloists are and thus feels great. Not to mention the paint job is just a great Red Blue Pearl... just fantastic and very mid range heavy guitar.

Enough talk though - on to the pics!

    Lastly the Jackson family.

That KV is brutal. Is is a 25.5" scale length?

Yeah it sounds really brutal even with the EMG in there. Yes all except the quilted maple are 25.5" with the quilted maple one being a baritone at 27"

That's an amazing collection you have there. I'm more than a little jealous.

Congrats, those are awesome. Can't believe you found 2 CS 7 strings!

I'm the same regarding King Vs. I've never gotten that comfortable playing my Rhoads, but I got a King V and it felt great immediately.

I can't either which is why I grabbed them both.

The RR1s I've tried always felt like they were made too small and just like my hand (forearm) couldn't rest on anything and they never balance well. This KV however balances really well and feels great under my forearm too.

Thanks guys - I gave the KV7 a nice scrub down last night and will be checking up on it over a few days since I made some slightly truss rod adjustments.
