  • Jackson Serial Numbers?

What's the formula for reading these?
    Date manufactured for example...?

    I'm trying to date my new/used PC1.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately the USA ones are sequential and they haven't updated the list since 2001.

    Here is the list:

Crafted with the demands of the discernible player in mind, Jackson guitars give you the shapes, finishes and tones you love. From the venerable Rhoads, Soloist, Warrior and more, shop Jackson for the highest performance.

If you post a partial (like 0056xx) someone here can probably give you a good guess if they have one with a similar # and they know when theirs was built...

Yeah, the serial info since FMIC is pretty non existent. To some extent you can date the PC1 by:

      - The headstock (#1: original Charvel SD reissue, #2: ballsack, #3:strathead (I think 2006 onwards))
      - The body wood (koa for the first year (or two?), then mahogany)
      - The colour (some colours have come and gone, plus chlorine has 'evolved' to a much more clumsy/less subtle look nowadays)
      - Tone control (there wasn't one in the first few years).
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Or with that one. You can take the neck off and look at the stamp in the pocket

          Ha!

Good point. I never think in terms of bolt on necks!

O.K. all good stuff guys, thanks, but no real answer yet.
"Ball-sack" headstock... is that really how you guys
refer to that one? I've never heard that one before
              but it seems to fit...

Anyway... it's 007129. Fender "Strat" headstock.
              Au Natural (satin) finish.
I'm too lazy to check the neck pocket now or
              any-time soon.

              O.k., how about this...
When did they start the new style case?

I just thought of something else...
Maybe I should check the pot. code...
Shit, I don't know how to read those either...

You can always check the hang tag if you still have it. The date is on there.
                Or take the neck off.
Pot codes are useless. Jackson buys them in bulk just like everyone else. There could be years between when a pot is made and when it is actually installed.

                  Might it be 2000?

Here's the PC page in the 2000 catalog:

Wouldn't 'strat' headstock make it at least as recent as 2006 (going by Ian's guess)?

That 2000 catalog shows 'ballsacks' (at least I think they are)

Yeah, I think you're right Ward, about the year at least, because I just noticed that bolt on Jackson USAs serials are at 005xxx for 2000. I got mixed up with MIJ 00xxxx numbers.

I just got home & checked my meager list.

It doesn't narrow it down very much, but I had 004590 that was built in 97, and 007859 that was built in 2010.

                          So... w/ a serial # of 007129, this could be a late '09 or early '10?
I'm just curious, it's mint / used. No hang tag...

What about the case, anyone know when they started the new style?

Hard to tell because they don't build a set # each year. Some of the years they produce a lot, others not so much. Going by the two numbers I listed they averaged about 250 per year from 97 to 2010. I don't know what months those were built, which skews things a bit. According to the list in 99 they only built 50 bolt ons, and in 2000 they built 75, so there are definitely years when they produced far more than 250.

I just don't know how many they are building per year now. It would be nice if some guys with newer bolt ons could give some numbers to compare.

Not sure on the new cases. I got one with an '09 and a '10, but I don't know when they started.

Pull the neck, should be a date stamp on the heel and/or neck pocket IIRC.
