  • NGD: Ultra Violet SL2H

Just got this in the other day. I've been looking for a Jackson USA SL2H Soloist that isn't Black or Trans Blue and preferably had a unique finish. It was kicking around on ebay for a while way overpriced and the guy finally put it up auction style where I finally snagged it for a good price.

It's an apparently fairly rare Ultra Violet finish. Basically it's Pavo Purple on the front and back with black burst sides. It's unique, not something you see every day, and it looks much better in person too. It first I thought it was a decent paint scheme, not great, not terrible, but it has really grown on me and now I think it's seriously damn cool. The purple blends into the blackburst nicely. It has a Black Light vibe to it.

This really came about because my Trans Blue Soloist's color was kind of lame. The Trans Blue is cool in pictures, but the flash makes it more blue. In real life, the Trans Blue is too dark and you can barely see the flame top, which is kind of a waste. It bothered me, so it needed to be replaced.

I replaced the pickups with a set custom set of Nukes from Wade at Motor City Pickups.

I like it. I have to say I have not seen many ultra violet finishes. not many at all. I think it was offered around 2003 or so. The problem with the trans finishes is they were SO overdone. I mean you saw tons of trans red, blue, green, and black soloists. tons of them. I have one in Yellow Gold Pearl from 2002. Damn cool color. it looks brite ass banana yellow until you get really close and can see the pearl in it. you dont see many of those either. just wasnt a popular color during the trans finish boom of the time.

    great score!

I have a Trans Red SL1 that is nice. The Trans Blue is way to dark. Dark enough that you sometimes had a hard time seeing the flame top, which kind of seemed like a waste to me. The one that I am really searching for is Cabo Blue, which is another one from around 2004 that you rarely ever see.

There was one on ebay for about the last 4 months, but the guy wanted way to much money for it, otherwise I would have snagged it.

Nice score! I was watching that one on Ebay and was seriously considering making a run for it. But my wife has been looking around at new cars so I had to pass. Glad someone here grabbed it. I've seen that finish in person and it looks way better than any pics. Congrats again.

Very nice! I love the burst, it looks like it was done particularly well.
            Enjoy it.

Purple is definitely not my color, but that's one sharp guitar. Congrats!

I hear ya, that SFG one on ebay was just stupid priced. I mean just out of this world. its worth about $900 in the real world. period.

I do like the trans finishes, I have a trans red, purple burst (limited run) and Chlorine (limited run).

this isnt the best pic of the chlorine, but its not dark. nice and brite and the flame shows really well. its kind of a shitty picture.

and here is the yellow gold pearl which isnt that common.

If that ultra violet was on the market and I was looking for a guitar, I would certainly buy it. cool color, and not something you see every day.

that YGP dont show the pearl in pics well at all. I have a snow white pearl as well, and that dont show in the pics either. you can see it in real life though, it shows up very well and looks bad ass cool.

Considering a solid color USA Soloist goes for between $900-$1200, you could theoretically give the Sea Foam Green a small premium above that, but the started the auction at $2300, which was probably $800 more than what the guitar cost new. He wasn't willing to really budge on the price either.

I could do without the gold hardware on the Trans models of yours, but that Chlorine is damn cool, as is the Yellow Gold Pearl. I'd probably buy both of them if I saw them for sale. I wish Jackson would go back to doing some unique colors again. Even if they would mix in a different color every year, but it seems like they have basically had the same colors since 2005.

I hear you on some new colors. the ones they have now are old and unexciting. as for the gold hardware on the Chlorine..... when you see it in person, its a must.

Great looking Soloists! Jackson does need to offer some more interesting finishes.
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....
