  • USA RR2 Value...

So I picked up an RR2... they dont come up often so I snagged it right away, have wanted one for a long time. Finally gets here today, and its in pretty rough shape. I knew the paint on the fins were chipped as usual, but the clear is also delaminating off the headstock under the logo and multiple other dings, dents and a nickle size spot of missing paint on the top. Structurally its 100% solid, nice straight neck, very little fretwear, fretboard, electronics and hardware is in good shape. Ive come to the conclusion that these things had some finish issues, considering the DR2's with the finish defects we've seen among others, and JC is kinda known for the headstock delamination thing, esepcially over the phenolic caps that these aparently have.

So basically it hasnt been taken great care of, but the potential to be a solid, good player. Could def use a refin, or I could just leave it as is an use it as a stage guitar and have fun with it. I paid $550 plus shipping, and the seller offered me back $100 because of the undisclosed damage, so that leaves me at $495 shipped. This doesnt happen often, but Im stumped as to if I got a reasonable deal or not... they dont come up often so there isnt much to go by. I wanna make sure I make the right decision weather to keep it or send it back...

Edit: and it did come with a case... not a JC case, but one that fits surprisingly perfect.

I ask you to answer this in all honesty: Would you pay around $500 shipped for a cosmetically rough, but solid RR2?

I know I paid around 425 for my DR2 and sold if for 465. that had a good chip in the back finish. I consider the two comparable.

            I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

Yup, the RR2 and SL2 (and AT1) had Kent Armstrong pickups while the DR2 had Duncans.

                        Is that a blank board?

I'd keep it and get a refin personally. Pretty cool guitar

Will do! Im just gonna clean it up for right now and see how it is... if anything, considering they arent too common Id probably have it resprayed in the original color... boring, I know!

And yeah the pups are Armstrongs... probaby similar if not the same as the ones that came in some of the MIJ Dinky Reverses, which werent too bad.
