  • Super Minor Issue With My Soloist. Would Appreciate Opinions.

I just received my SL2H in Absinthe Frost a week ago. This guitar plays like nothing I've ever experienced . I don't know why I waited this long to get a soloist. Here's where I want some feedback. After looking over the guitar I noticed in 2 places on the front that there are 2 small (size of a pen tip) brownish things(?) in between the paint (or in it) and the clear coat. They aren't noticeable from far away, but now that I've found them it really bugs me. I guess part of me just expects a $2,400 guitar to be flawless at first. Anyways, would you bring it to the attention of Jackson/Fender, or would you just live with it?

I hope I'm not coming across as a picky bitch. I'm just curious what others think.

    Thanks, guys!

I completely 100% think a new $2400 guitar should be flawless when you get it. Would be different on a SLX or the like, but not a USA. I'd raise the issue.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll see what they have to say. I'd still love to see what other people think though.

Raise the issue, that's not acceptable when you spend so much coin.

BTW, congrats on the new (flawed) guitar. Pics please.

Thanks and thanks. Here is one. I feel like this is a good representation of the color. The gold flakes that are mixed in make it unlike anything I've ever seen. It's beautiful in person.

What is known as "trash" in the finish.

Wow, that looks amazing. And as far as the blemish goes, I agree with everyone else. If you're paying that much and it really bothers you I would get it fixed. Would it be possible to capture what you're talking about? Maybe with the flash off in the right light?

There are two ways you could go about - at some point you will get a ding in the finish that will make you cry anyway, consider this a "pre-ding" and enjoy the guitar.

Nobody in the audience is going to see that.

Yes, $2400 is a lot for a guitar (I can't believe how much these guitars have gone up - I couldn't afford to replace mine if it were stolen or lost) and it should be flawless but guitars are made by humans, paint is made by humans and there can be irregularities in anything we buy depending on what it is.

If it plays well and sounds great and you return it you might end up with a situation where the one they replace it with just doesn't have the same sound or feel.

I tried to get pictures of them, but it was incredibly hard, especially with just my iphone. Here's what I managed though.

This next one you cant even really see. It's almost like a brown smudge when you look at it though.

                  I found one more.

I can see what you're talking about. These types of things do happen... and it's hard to say what they might do once they get the guitar. They might try to fix it, they might give you another guitar, but you would likely be waiting a while. I've never bought a new USA before so I'm not entirely sure what your options are. I wonder if you could get a discount or something of the like. I would ask what you can do. Hell, back when I didn't do my own pickup swaps and had it done on my Jackson with an OFR they set it up to E instead of D tuning like I had it and when I mentioned it I got a 20 dollar gift card

+1. It's a metallic, and sometimes you do get little darker specs in the finish.

Based on the pix, this is a non issue.

I agree with the fact that paying 2400 it should be perfect but in reality I have never bought a guitar that I could not find some kind of small blemish(including 5000 custom shop guitars). I agree with some of the others, it is human made and you might get something worse in the end. Very stunning Guitar BTW.

If it plays killer and sounds killer, don't let it get away because of a couple of small finish imperfections that can barely be photographed. If I sent my RR1T back because it had a small black bit of fluff in the clear over the binding then I would not have my 'soul mate' guitar.

                              Just play the damn thing!!!
