I'd order a Custom as well, except for those very reasons. I don't want an 18-24 month quote especially seeing how Jackson rarely makes their estimated delivery dates. Even considering how badly they butchered my first two orders, both Mike and Pablo screwed up royally, I'd still order if wait times were under a year. Remember when the CS was like that? :\

That's all very true, and sure, Jackson have copied / improved on other companies designs. However, they have legitimate, popular/successful designs of their own also (Soloist and Rhoads being the main of course).

Whereas if we're looking at ESP, have they done anything original that's actually any kind of positive benchmark? I don't see companies lining up to rip-off the Forest guitars...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an ESP hater - I want a Hanneman. But I recognise that it's just a Kahler'd Soloist Custom with fancy inlays...

But I'm probably getting off point - I've had some less than ideal experiences on a couple of Jackson CS orders, but in fairness, they've done what was necessary to make them right in the end. And hats off to them for that. But inherently, the rebuilds just added to the build time. And when we're talking about a 2 year ETA, I don't want to take the chance...

Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

I don't disagree with you at all. However, I want a strathead that isn't an AS or PC and don't want a Charvel. That leaves me with Fender or sneaking through non-US dealers and ordering it through ESP. ESP has continually improved the Strat. Jackson has not. For example, the neck on my order alone... curved fretboard, round 21 fret heel, includes carbon fiber rods to improve stiffness, slight bend to the headstock to eliminate the need for a string retainer as well as specifying how thick you want the board. ESP Japan asks you to specify this. US Dealers get the dumbed down order form. Jackson will happily fill in the blanks and on both of my botched custom orders, they didn't even read half the build sheet. ESP will charge me about 50% more for my custom, but it sounds like they're far more concerned with nailing my order down in a way than Jackson never has.

If I ordered a replica to my Jackson Strathead from ESP, it would basically be a guitar without any custom options at all.

They did full-sized LPs for Marty Friedman and Joey Z from Life of Agony. They also had a smaller, bolt-on, painted neck LP called the JJP (Jackson Junior Paul) back in '97, and I used to own one.
