  • NGD: 2001 Jackson PC1. I'm in a state of euphoria!

Some of you may remember my post last week regarding a pending NGD. Well, as promised, some NGD pics for you all. She came in yesterday but I spent some time taking her apart, cleaning and giving a full setup (you know, the ritual most of us do on NGD day.. lol).

The finish is striking in person, my favorite finish on the PC1s though they are all nice in their own way. This is an older model, with the pre-fender headstock and the non-painted back. I prefer the old ones to the newer ones as I think they look terrific with the wood showing thru on the back, and quilted fretboards. This is my 4th PC1. I have one tuned to D, one Eb, one E with a d-tuna and this new one is tuned to E.

blah blah blah... Without further ado:

    quilted maple fretboard goodness:

Do you find a difference with the PC1s that have a tone control vs pre-2001 models that do not have it? I'm trying to decide on a purchase and am leaning towards a 2001 or later model that has the volume, tone and sustain controls..I appreciate your thoughts...

I prefer the older ones given that better selection of woods and more stunning tops too. Not to mention the really old ones have a killer quilt maple fretboard as well.

Also like the lack of a tone control (who the hell really uses that anyhow) and it free's up the area a bit more. Three knobs and two switched makes for a busy area IMHO.
