Not to plug myself, or WCR... But I did create a floyd specific pup with the help of Jim.
I do not make a dime on them, just exploiting what I wanted to hear.
Jay Kolanda from http://www.ntlguitar.com/ talks about his new pickup, the "WCR Murkat Special Floyd Specific Pickup". This pickup is designed to give a guit...

whats cool is that the distortion is the same winding as the JB only with a ceramic magnet in place of the stock 5 so what i always did was bought after market mags and made the distortion from a JB by installing a large ceramic in it

many have said this? I just bought a EVH frank pu for cheap on amazon so it will be close enough to a holy diver huh? good to know!

I have never tried one, but they are supposedly great pick ups. The PATB-1 is a little less output, more medium I think while the PATB-2 is a ceramic high output beast. Just another option to consider.
I pretty much hate Duncan pickups. Almost all of them are low output and have weird EQ's with weak low end cruch. However, The Duncan Parrallel Axis is a great pickup, really un-Duncan sounding. High output with lots of nice crunch. If you have have to buy a Duncan, buy the Parrallel Axis.

To me they are very close in tone. I have noticed that the Holydiver it a little more crisp in the attack and the EVH is a little more loose or spongy, for lack of a better term, but only slightly. They are both great pickups it just depends on what you like better.

Have to agree the JB is king and the benchmark. It will never be thick or fat in a strat type guitar and it will not give you distorted crunch and chunk. Sometimes its rounded off treble tones and lack of balls lead you to believe its the wrong pickup for the job. But you are wrong. It is so good that it will make a solid state amp bounce and sound like it has grown some valves....and knowing how to play it is the key, you want to turn the distortion down a tad and let it shine through for those 80's rock tones and you can acheive some fat riffage or equally well some shimmering chords with the same pup at the same volume depending on your attack. Its a lovely pickup but it responds to attack of the player and is even better for soloing. Scooped out modern metal it is not though and it can sound thin. But I think you need to explore it more with your amp.

Perfect pickup for Ratt's 'Wanted Man'.

I think as soon as you go ceramic you gain some crunch but you loose so much tone and Dimarzio's do sound kind of freaky and dry or 2 dimensional compared to the more traditional sounding Duncans which are far more vintage crank warm and wholesome.

That said the Superdistortion blows the Duncan distortion out of the water.

Just wish the JB came in double creme.

Rip out that god awful JB and throw in a Super Distortion or even an EMG of your choice. The JB is a great pickup if all you need to do is cut through a wall of noise to wanksterbate, which is what it was primarily designed for. It's a great hard rock pickup and if you want to nail some of those gay 80's sounds that many people around here still enjoy. It's an absolutely horrible pickup for technical/brutal death metal. Absolutely horrible bottom end that ends up getting lost in the mud, and it's made worse by the body woods it's usually used with and often ends up sounding too nasaly.

Going to have to back up the Warpig on this front. if that pup can't make your guitar sound fat you have problems that cannot be solved with pickup swapping.

Just be warned once you get a BKP you won't buy any other pickups...

The JB is definitely a very cool and versitile pick up. The JB/59 combo that comes with a lot of Jacksons is quite versitile, especially if you use the tone knob and volume to really get the sounds you want. I have the JB now in my SL2H and to add a little more umph, I had to set it fairly close to the strings, closer than Duncan recommends actually. (They say between 1/8 and 1/16, I have it at 1/6...I think..whatever is between the 8 and 4 on the Stewmac gauge!) That being said, I'll probably replace it with a Custom (or some modded variant of the Custom that I make) but that's really more personal preference based on the style of music that I play mostly. (heavier rock and metal) While you can get good chug and metal tones out of it, it's just not its thing and not really what it was designed for. Actually it was designed for 250k pots and a tele/strat and I'd like to try it like that some day.

I just installed a D'Activator in the Bridge of my SL2H and put new 500K CTS pots in her and so far I am liking the marriage of the pup and guitar. I am gonna give it a couple weeks before I make a final judgement (honeymoon period). But the Dimarzio has balls and so far the tone is excellent. Put a Liquifire in the neck. Nice pup too, compliments the D'Activator very well and pretty balanced. If I fall out of love with the Dimarzio, I am going with a BN Aftermath or Nailbomb in the Bridge position next although I was thinking of a Gibson 490/498 set as well!

They did, but not any more. You used to be able to get them under a lightly soldered cover to take off, but Duncan won't do that color at all any more.
