  • School me on RR1's

I have a guy who wants to trade me his RR1 for my Prestige RG. I've always loved the RR1, especially in white, but I don't really know what to look for to make sure this thing is legit. I am supposed to meet him tonight. I feel I am getting a great deal here and so I am a bit nervous about a fake.

Here is a single pic he sent me, says the guitar is 9/10 condition. It doesn't have bevels, which I thought they all did, which makes me suspicous. Everything else looks legit, he also says he does have a case and a "tag" for it which I assume is a build tag?

It does have bevels, they're just not painted in a different colour.

Look for the serial number - should start with a U on that guitar. There's plenty of 'solid' colour RRs out there, without contrasting colour bevels or pinstripes. For what it's worth, from that pic, the guitar looks fine to me.

It looks legit, and I can see the bevels in the pic as well. As neili said it's just not painted a different color as some are. I can see what looks like the "Made in USA" after the 'n' of the Jackson logo on the headstock. RR's are awesome guitars. I'd like to get my hands on a USA RR.

        Here you are:

At a glance it looks legit, I don't think you need to worry. Doesn't look very old so all you really need to look for is that it has real MOP inlays and real MOP headstock logo. The back covers should be metal and not plastic. If you look at the link above you can see it's very easy to tell the difference between MOP and MOTO. Prestiges are nice but I'd trade it for that RR1 in a heartbeat.

Do they all have MOP logos, though? I've got a '00 RR1T with MOP logo and had an '04 RR1T that had a regular white non-MOP logo.

Sorry, I meant pinstripes, and not bevels. Glad to hear not all of them were pinstriped.

I have had a MIJ Soloist before and can tell the difference with real MOP pretty easily so I think that will be the main thing I look for, along with the serial number. After seeing that Music Zoo pic I am sure it's real.

Edit - If the headstock logo is not MOP and the above post is true, are the inlays at least always MOP? In the Music Zoo pics it looks like only the inlays are MOP unless it's just the angle.

My mistake, didn't know they did that. I had thought by a certain year they would pretty much all have MOP logos.

Yeah the inlays should always be MOP. Sometimes it's hard to capture the logo quite as well, but you can see it doesn't have the black shadow inside the letters.

I'm not really sure if all the regular RR1s had MOP or perhaps just the RR1T got the different logos at times.

From the pic alone, I'm 99% sure it's legit. Those inlays are definitely MOP and the logo looks MOP as well. Like others said make sure you look at the serial number and see if it starts with U.

If it were me, I'd definitely accept the trade (after playing it), but I'm not exactly the biggest RG fan in the world...

I think there was a period / run of RR1Ts with a smaller, white logo. But my understanding is that standard is still MoP.

Ah, okay. I know my gunmetal gray RR1T was from the first year run in 2000 with MOP. The black one I had from '04 was white. Wasn't sure during what period they changed, and I know the catalogs specified that the RR1T was first limited to 50 being produced a year.

Yeah, that thing is absolutely sexy. I've always been a big fan of the solid white ones without the pinstripes or painted bevels.

This RR definitely looks like it will make at least 60% more panties drop than any boring Ibanez RG.
