  • I think I found a USA I might trade for... Is it a real USA?

I found a black soloist I might trade an engine for. It's my dad's engine and we are having a hard time selling it.

It's on craigslist and he only has 1 good pic

Is it a real USA? He says it's in mint condition with original paperwork and hardshell case. How much do these run for? I was looking on ebay and found two black soloist for $1600 and $1700.

Hard to tell from that pic, but it looks like the middle single coil is missing and that the neck pickup is a single sized humbucker. I'd definitely want more pix.

Heres another pic. It's still not very good though... I might email him for more.

      Here's the original posting:

"I told myself I was never letting this one go, you wouldn't believe what I gave away for it...yet here it goes...mint, body looks like glass, frets and neck thru body are perfect, two custom Seymour pickups, hard shell case and original paperwork included.

Don't take my word for the quality, come play it and know that according to a local luthier it sounds incredible clean so of course it also sounds incredible dirty.

These guitars are currently selling from $800.00 to $1,400.00 on Ebay....rescue me from Ebay fees!

Cash is cool but trade is king...what do you have?"

Ask for more pics but it seems legit. I can see a middle pickup in there, probably a hot rails or something... but I have my monitor brightness maxed out. Practically need sunglasses for this bitch.

What kind of photos should I ask for? Headstock Jackson logo/usa logo closeups, body closeups and neck-thru closeups?

Looks fine to me, and the description seems honest (market values etc). Middle pickup looks stock, but the neck has been swapped for something like a JB Jr or something...

The other thing is, if it's legit and I do get it, I'll have to sell it quick. It's my dad's engine and were going halfway in on a business. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in it if I do get it?

I would pay for the platinum JCF membership of course and post it in the classifieds.

You could also ask for the serial number. That will help confirm not only USA made, but also the age of it. If it's a USA the serial should be a capital U, then 5 numbers, like U14804. Unless it happens to be a custom, which would have a J then four digits, like J5969.

Nobody here is going to pay $1600 or $1700 for a used Soloist. If you buy it, you'll probably end up holding on to it for a while. Just saying...

I'm not expecting $1600 or higher. I was thinking $1250 if it's in mint condition.

Give it a try. Used SL1s are having a hard time breaking $1000 on ebay.

If I can't at least get a quick $1000 for it fast, I'll probably pass on the trade. I guess the sl2h's have more of a demand?

Go look for yourself. It doesn't matter what people are asking... you could ask a million dollars for it. Only one sold for $1200 and it looked brand new all the rest were at 1000 or less or didn't sell....

Thanks for insight on pricing. I might have to pass on this one. Between shipping and fees I'll end up paying close to $200.

Looks like an SL1 to me!
