  • What's this Dinky really worth????

Hi guys-- Thinking of buying this one. What do you think it is really worth?? Serial # 005871. Are these faked very often. What should I look out for??? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd say that was a pretty fair price.
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Looks pretty good, I'd offer $800 but would float back up to $900 if I had to. Those EMG's look to be original, which is nice.

Is the San Dimas style control cutout due to the battery cavity?

Not sure. I think they were trying to be old school by going with the SD route, and modern at the same time with the separate battery route.

I think it's worth the asking price. Be glad it's not in my craigs or I'd be buying it now LOL! Offer $800 like Axe said.

If these are ever faked, it's never successful because we at JCF can easily spot that crap.

You should look for dings or excessive wear, broken nose, etc. I don't easily see any of that.

The only gripe I have with this guitar is that I prefer the old 80's graphics done by Dan Lawernce, like his Saturn or nebulas.

That looks like a pretty good price, especially for a nebula graphic. Maybe offer $750 and you'll have room to negotiate if he makes a counter offer. If he doesn't take it, then $900 really isn't bad...

900 is pretty good for a DK1 with nebula graphic. You can see if he will take less. If you go to look at it and there's any cosmetic issues I'm sure you can easily talk him down. I also think the nebula graphic is the most expensive finish option. I would have assumed the trans finishes with figured maple cap and headstock veneer would be the most...

Hey Guys-- Thanks for the help. I went ahead and pulled the trigger and bought it. Condition is pretty good (I think). It has a small piece that in the tip of the nose that has been glued back and a small chip on the bottom where you plug in at. It also looks like it has a crack in the lacquer (not the wood??) in the body down by where the neck bolts on. I'll try and get some pictures posted. The graphic looks like it's signed by Dan Lawrence (don't know if this makes any difference)??? Other than that the guitar is pretty nice. The neck looks super straight, frets and fret board look really good. Important thing is I really like the way the guitar sounds with the active p/u's vs. my other Jackson that has passive p/u's(ken Armstrong, I think??). Also, this thing feels super light compared to my other one. It's a USA neck thru SL2H (I think). I'll get some pics posted and you guys can tell me if I screwed up or not (condition wise). Again, thanks for the help.

Having a paint crack coming from the neck pocket isn't uncommon. Depending on the cut of alder the guitar can be lighter or heavier, both of my DK1s happen to be pretty heavy. Does your SL2 happen to have a blank fret board?

Yeah, the fretboard is completely blank. It just seems to be a sturdier guitar???

Ok, so you have an SL2 from 96-97 or so, not an SL2H. There was the SL2, RR2, DR2, and maybe another. They were cheaper versions of the SL2H and RR1. They had less features, but were not less quality. You don't see very many, very cool guitars. I own an RR2, which is a bolt on and also has a paint crack in the neck pocket.

Anyway, you need to post your new DK1
