A friend offered me this H/S Soloist earlier this year - he was selling because the neck was too big for his girly little hands. Initially, I was on the fence about it, because other than the h/s, it wasn't particularly special, and wasn't in the best shape. The binding at the head had cracked and the back of the guitar had some serious worming, but on the upside the body front and frets were in great shape, plus the non-recessed floyd and h/s were pretty cool. I kind of kept it in the back of my mind as a refin project, but initially, I didn't really have any ideas. I threw a few things around in my imagination, but none of them really seemed super appealing to me. But, after a few weeks I had a more definite idea and started to do some mockups, and this is the final version I sent to Mike:
Mike suggested some changes and I got my buddy to send the guitar direct to Mike (thereby keeping it in the US and saving extra shipping and customs). As per usual, I tracked down some EMGs for Mike to install in the guitar - if I'm going to be stuck with pickups because they are going to be painted, I want to be sure they're ones I like the sound of. So it has an 85 in the bridge and an SA in the neck. I did contemplate getting Mike to remove the tone control to clean the face up a bit, but decided to keep it as it was. Not sure why now though LOL
Anyway, here's the finished result: Some of you will hate it I know and obviously it's very different from Mike's usual style, but I think it looks awesome!! Oh, and I have no idea if Count Duckula was ever exported to the US - it was from the same people who did 'Danger Mouse', but that might not mean anything either...
Oh, and during the time I was taking pics, our son decided to get in on the action. Fun fun fun LOL
