Maybe the stamp for U has broken; so in the meantime, they'll be using just J until either the U stamp is repaired or replaced?

That's weird if it's been sold as a Custom Select, not a small batch / dealer run or whatever. The JCS guitars on ebay have all been J serials and they've all been from runs of 10. Maybe they'd not decided on the serialisation standard back when this was built? Then again, this is the second JCS Rhoads I've seen with a J serial which also seems strange...

Also, this one says work order 1001 as well

Mine starts with a "U" in the serial #, (but I'm not sure if that's because it was a NAMM guitar...). It's really hard to capture the reddish-pink color in photos...
sorry about the sideways pics, not sure why they uploaded that way (mods, can you set them right-side-up...?)

That I'm not sure of. I've not seen an actual customer order yet, but I have a suspicion that the certificates might just come with the 'special edition' (i.e. small batch) or NAMM guitars. They don't give certificates with proper Custom Shops after all..

Ian, any insight on the certificates?

Do they only come with certain CS guitars?

It was stated earlier in the thread that they would be a Jxxxx number (can't remember where the info came from, but I think it was a solid source), and I think there are a couple on eBay that confirm it already.

Curious what serial #s they will be using on these Custom Selects and if the will have a U, J or something else. Just wondering if I will include them in my USA Select log or if I would need to start a new log.

He 's referring to a custom shop certificate, not the hangtag. There is one on the right in the picture below.

I've seen them before in pictures, but haven't ever received one with a custom shop guitar (even the one I ordered new and built to my specs). I could be wrong on this, but I don't think they are created for every custom shop guitar.

WELL... my Special Edition Pink SL1 arrived today!!!
    My first impression...?
    Quality.
The limited "introduction runs" on display at NAMM and on Jackson's own website were the first Custom Selects to be built, so they should hopefully give some idea of what the rest of the production guitars should be like.

It plays really nice with great action on a superb feeling neck and great fretboard binding. Love the Duncan pickups. The color is kind of a reddish pink, (color is very closely captured on Jackson's own website photo), versus the usual platinum pink which is more of a light pearl.

I believe I have the specific one that was on display at NAMM as it comes with the little display card that was on the guitar during the show. I do seem to be missing the Jackson Custom Shop Certificate though...does anyone have a photo of what this document looks like? (Please post a photo?)

The only companies that seem to be really making quality new guitars these days are Jackson/Charvel and ESP...("mainstream" companies that is...if I was to also add the smaller custom companies, I'd mention GMP and Moser...)
