  • PC-1 neck replacement

Hello fairly new here, not sure if this is the right area for this

Picked up a used PC-1, Changing the hardware to black as you can see. Unfortunately the truss rod is stripped (never had a truss rod strip before), the guitar is not unplayable but obviously the lack of adjustment is annoying. I have the instructions on what and where to bring it regarding a FMIC service center, but being as its used i believe it wont be covered under warranty does anyone have an idea of what Jackson would charge for a replacement neck?

    Thanks for any help
    Rich

I'm not sure they will supply a replacement neck - maybe if you return the current neck though? Then again, if you aren't the original purchaser, I have my doubts. I remember being told years ago that Jackson rods could just be unscrewed, removed and replaced, but I can't see how that could work..

I know id have to return the neck thats not a problem why would i want to keep it. The original owner part is what concerns me, and yea i cant see how the nut/rod could come out of the neck.

This is the info i got regarding what to do from Jackson

First, take a series of photographs of your instrument. The photographs must show each of the
      following:
      1. The entire front of the instrument.
      2. The entire back of the instrument.
      3. A close-up photograph of the head stock.
      4. A close-up photograph of the serial number on the instrument. FMIC stringed instrument product
serial numbers are located either on the front of headstock, the back of headstock, the back of neck, the
heel of the neck, the neck plate or the bridge plate.
Next, bring your instrument along with the photographs of it to an Authorized FMIC Service Center for
evaluation. A verification of the authenticity of the instrument as well as the need for either a
replacement neck or body would be determined at that time. The Service Center would then send the
photographs along with appropriate documentation to our technical support staff here at FMIC to seek
approval for the sale of a replacement. If you need assistance locating an Authorized FMIC Service
Center near you please contact our Consumer Relations Department at 480-596-7195 or via e-mail to
[email protected] and a representative will be happy to assist you, or check out the
Authorized Service Center listings at www.fender.com.

The problem I'd expect is the cost - you might find that a new official PC1 neck would cost you a grand..

I once had a PC-1 with a damaged neck (was not Jackson's fault) and wanted to buy a new neck for this guitar. Jackson did not want my money. Matt tried everything possible but Jackson just didn't want to sell me a new one. I would have sent the guitar in and they also could keep the old one...

Better off buying a neck from say Musikraft and adding the logos after.

No neck is worth the hassle nor a 1K price tag!

Umm, you've been a member longer than me!

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, Stew-Mac sells a truss rod repair tool. It drills out more wood, then adds threads to the remaining truss rod. If the neck is shot anyway, what could it hurt? It might be worth a try.

Andother option is you could mail the neck to Dan Erlewine and see what he can do.

Are you sure its actually stripped? When I bought my PC1 new we couldn't fit the supplied Allen wrench to it no matter how hard we tried. Had an Authorized FMIC service center check it and some of the PC-1's wont let the supplied made in China allen wrench fit but will work with a good USA made one. Mine is one of them. Its still a tough fit but try a quality Allen wrench first before abandoning that neck.

I have a few different USA made allen's it just seems to grab and then slips and there are filings on the end of it.

Stew Mac sells a slightly tapered allen wrench that I use for my own PC1's

Bought that one too, I found it to tight to get in the truss rod hole. Did you have that problem?

This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

First off, be careful how you throw that name around here. Second, he's dead.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

Jackson will not warranty a stripped truss rod nut even if you were the original owner. The nut can be replaced but it's not easy. I would search for a repair tech that is willing to make the repair...

Here is the part available at Stew Mac...
