Also, I was wondering how long after the Custom Select threads showed up until we saw this type of post. Answer: not long
Them's the breaks, kid. 1st world problems, etc. It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

But you're missing the point: The whole mindset behind Custom Select is that in order to make the turnaround is faster and the price lower, the guitars are spec'd from a very limited selection of options compared to a custom shop. Consider them a 'semi-custom'. There are basically no wood working changes permitted other than a rev head - I was begging them to allow me to just have a single volume and no tone control and the answer was a definite 'no' (for then at least), so I just sucked it up and will live with a disconnected tone control. And how difficult is it to not drill one hole? (insert guffaw here)
If you want to get ANYTHING that isn't on the custom select menu, you have to go full custom. And if you want to do some sort of custom inlay, that's always gonna cost you because it's out of the norm, and that don't come cheap. So, as I used to say to people who were considering ordering a full CS with basically standard specs only with a minor change (rev inlays, pickup model swap or whatever), I'd really recommend you compromise on your specs a tiny bit to save a ton of money and an age of time.
But they don't offer graphics in Custom Select, so your order would always have been full custom anyway.Last edited by neilli; 07-01-2013, 09:25 PM.Popular is not the same as good

I'm glad they did start this. I know several of us have discussed not only the possibility of it, but also suggested methods of implementing it (as best we could, anyway, largely based on supposition and speculation) over the years. Hopefully once they get a feel for the average turn-around time, they'll phase in more changes, including "one less hole" or "pass me that lefty board, it'll be a cheap way to fill a reverse-inlay option".I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I guess it's because there's production and then there's custom. And in custom, there are two levels, 'CS cheapskate' and 'CS fancy-pants'. So just like you can get a Nebula graphic in production and in 'CS fancy-pants' but you can't get it in 'CS cheapskate', you can get a rev head in 'CS cheapskate' and in 'CS fancy-pants', but not in production (or at least not as a one-off, but that's another story).
Basically, it's not a perfect world...Last edited by neilli; 07-02-2013, 02:11 AM.Popular is not the same as good

I've been to the factory and it's pretty clear Jackson standard, CS or CS select and NOT a priority to Fender. It blew my mind when I saw the Fender CS - 6 builders in their own booths making lots and lots of CS guitars - way more than I would have every imagined. Clearly, that is Fender's priority

On other forums, I've heard people talk about a "huge backlog" leading to the 2 year wait time at Jackson. I'm purely pulling this out of my rear-end, but I'm guessing there really aren't that many pending CS orders. As Dave Rocks said, it's more an issue of priority. I'd be REALLY surprised if the CS backlog was 3 digits (meaning 100 or more). Think how few CS NGDs there are on here. It might even be WAY less than 100.
