  • NGD: USA Custom Select DK1

I just got this in last night. It was about 3 weeks late in delivery, but it is well worth it. I will say, that since the Jackson color charts are not great, I really didn't know what to expect for a color, but I took a shot anyways and HOLY S*&% IT"S F*$&ING PINK!!!! For whatever reason, I was expecting something a little more subtle or subdued, but it's a retina piercing, lipstick pink. So yeah, here is my Platinum Pink DK1. I apologize for the crappy pictures. As you can tell, it's not easy to get a decent picture of, but the Soloists that are on ebay are a pretty good representation.

    Specs:
    DK1
    Rosewood Fretboard/MOP Sharkfins/Ivoroid Binding
    Jumbo Stainless Frets
    Matching Headstock w/MOP Inlay
Duncan Distortion pickups(which will eventually get changed to Motor City Pickups Afwayu's)

Not sure about the rosewood fretboard. Makes it look a little DK2'ish. I would have requested jet black ebony to contrast with the pink.

Awesome. Doing a DK in pink w/platinum pearl is high on my wish list, too! Love that color, so old school. And loving the rosewood.

        Congrats!

If they would have offered black binding, I would have gone that route and then added a black logo on the headstock. That would have really contrasted. I'm actually fairly surprised that black binding was not an option given that most guitars with maple fretboards get black binding.

As for rosewood, I actually like how rosewood feels and sounds over ebony and I really do not care for maple at all. I also considered doing dots, but I almost feel like dots should be priced cheaper than sharkfins because you are getting less inlay. If they ever let us do pickup routing changes, I would love an HSS Dinky with dot inlay.

That is awesome. I would love to see that color in person. I almost went with it myself.

Honestly, I think it's a miracle that it was only 3 weeks late. Cool that these are seeing the light of day. Another CS Select with rosewood! If we keep this up, FMIC might start thinking it would be a good idea to make it the default wood Congrats!

Looks great seems a lot more red and darker than my '86 platinum pink.

Yours seems to be bubblegum pearl/metal flake, while mine seems to more of an 80's hooker lipstick pink. It doesn't seem to have much pearl or flake to it, just balls out pink.

Is it possible that your's is the "special edition pink" (same as the limited run Soloists), rather than "pink w/platinum pearl"? They're two pretty different versions of pink, and both are being offered for Custom Select guitar orders.

That is definitely blindingly pink. Rosewood works well with pink. I really wonder if that's a little different color platinum pink pearl than what the Shannon ones at Music Zoo were done in. Maybe it just photographs so differently. Mine should not be too far away now either. Gonna be cool!
Looking for un-molested slant fretboard early USA & Pro Warriors!

Platinum Pink. I thought I read that the "Special Edition Pink" was only on that run of 10 Soloists for NAMM and couldn't be ordered for other guitars, although I could be wrong.

Actually, when I ordered mine, "Platinum Pink" was the only pink available. After I ordered, they revised the color chart and offered "Pink w/Platinum Pearl" and "Special Edition Pink". I have no idea what the differences might be.
