It's a custom shop model, so SS was an option. The lack of oxidation doesn't help too much, either. I have a '93 Dinky pro that has no oxidation either.

I tried the magnet, but I didn't really have a good one to use, and the results were inconclusive. I also some guitars that definitely have nickel frets (like the Dinky), and couldn't really get a positive result from them either. I'll try to get a better magnet and try again.

My thought was that the SS frets would be magnetic, and regular frets would not be.

I didn't know SS frets were non-magnetic, so kill that idea.

I dont think ss fret was a option back to 1989. I dont even think there is ss fret option available in 1999.

Stainless steel frets have only become prevalent in recent years and are still relatively niche because they're difficult to work with, so the chances of having them on a guitar made in 1989 are pretty slim.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

I love SS frets. Both of my Wolfgangs were refretted with SS 6105 wire, and I just ordered a bunch of stuff from warmoth to build a guitar. The neck will have SS 6105 wire.

The frets on my PC1 are getting beat up pretty fast. When the time comes I wont even bother getting them leveled and dressed, it's going straight to Phil Jacoby for a SS refret and Plek job!!!

I dont notice any tone difference at all after my Wolfgangs were refretted. But after a year and a half of daily playing my #1 Wolfie has no fretwear on it at all... SS frets are a no brainer!!! Anyone that says theres a tone difference is hearing things...

I had a Sparrow Rat Rod (Les Paul alike) with stainless steel frets. Felt and sounded great to me, didn't notice any extra brightness or anything. Didn't keep the guitar long enough to comment on the wear, but since SS is harder I'm guessing that they'd have to last longer. Didn't notice any negative effects on string life...

Van Halen was the only guy I new of using stainless steel frets back in the day. Or so I heard.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

That's how I would describe the feel of stainless frets.

The first guitars Ed used with SS frets are the new Fender built EVH Wolfgangs... SS wasnt available back in the day...

My Parker has SS frets and I love them. Oh and my Modulus bass too.

Ed swears by them on the new EVH models.

I know they're super durable and I don't hear anything tone wise either.

I started getting them on custom Carvins and now I get them on everything when they are offered. My incoming Custom Select will have 'em and I'm really looking forward to it. They are smooth and feel so strong, without being too slick. To me in some cases, going back to playing regular frets feels like you're playing on a chalk board.
