1987 Soloist Student

I have the opportunity to buy a HSS soloist student (kahler trem) in good used condition with a slightly tatty original case for under £400.
Is this a good buy?
I don't mind that it hasn't sharkies etc. I thought perhaps it would be a good first/less expensive step into the USA soloist models.
Thoughts and opinions appreciated.
