Need help with history on "King V Prototype #1"

I know Kevin had some rough issues after leaving Jackson, but I still hold him in high regard. After he left the whole company structure kinda changed because he had his foot in nearly everything. Not all the change was for the better either. I miss the old Mothership days....

Yes, the King V comes in 3 different sizes, just like the (King)Kelley. Only the first 10-15 over the 1st couple of years were true Double Rhoads size. They quickly went to the 2nd size(just like they quickly went the 2nd Kelley size) around 1985. The Kelley was downsized again for Marty Friedman somewhere around 1990. It's possible that one was a prototype to the 3rd resize ???? I can't tell from the pics if it's a Size 2 or Size 3. Also, it could be a prototype to your basic standard production models. Remember, 1990 was the first year for standard production U-Serial numbered USA Jacksons.

It just came to me... it's been on the back of my mind for a while now. Seeing this thread again, it came to me...

It probably is a genuine prototype. 1990? It was probably a prototype for possible USA Select Series options.

I'm gonna disagree...I think it's just a custom KV...never seen Jackson use a lame (what looks to be) "prototype" sticker before. If it was some sort of prototype I doubt it would have a std. custom shop "J" serial as well.

Killer guitar but neck was not as described by salesperson....not the first time probably won't be the last....sux but working on a JCF-01 so....NBD!!

Yeah, if you need a fatter neck than the JCF01, you might want a 6-string bass

While the cavity sticker does look like it came out of one of those label-makers you and I can buy from Office Depot, keep in mind that businesses do shop there as well, and they go cheap where they can, especially for utilitarian needs. "We need a labeler once in a while for marking shit." "O.D. has one for like $20." "Sweet, take the company card and grab us one, and some Dunkin Donutz and shit."

$45 in donuts and coffee, $20 for office supplies you'll use once a month. That's how business rolls.

And it could very well be that was originally a NAMM piece that they decided was in the running for the USA or Pro production model, with #2 having a Floyd. Could also have been another artist sig model, but said artist bailed and went to another company before his name went on it.

Or maybe it belonged to the guitarist for Prototype and he figured the best way to anti-theft it would be to put a sticker in the neck pocket, so that when it was found in a pawn shop, he could say "there's a sticker in the pocket that says Prototype 1" as proof. After all, what numbskull would swap out the neck pickup to a Jackson?

And yet another plot twist - that sticker fell off the neck pickup, which was not a J-50N, but something far awesomer that is probably wasting away in someone's junk parts box.
