  • 1989 Custom neck pocket pictures

    Hi all,

I bought this 1989 custom a few months ago. Here's the original thread:

    http://www.jcfonline.com/threads/139...9-custom-strat!

Briefly, it's an odd one: string through, one-piece ash body, ebony fretboard and three humbuckers. I had some pictures of the neck pocket from the the seller, but they were out of focus. Here are some nice crispy ones. Any thoughts on the info here would be greatly appreciated!

I understand that 5869 is the work order number, 6/5/89 is the manufacture date, and OBD means "oiled, black, decal," but the rest?

    HG?
    N in a circle?
    T3m?
tuna? Or is it +uncl, or what?

    Thanks!

My guess on 'tuna' is is stands for tune-o-matic...not sure of the other markings. That is one cool score you landed though!

      Cool.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

I believe my 3-Tite (3 single coils) Jackson Custom has "3T" where yours has "3m". So maybe the 3m implies 3 huMbuckers?

T3m = 3 mini toggles, or Tone 3 minis (most would have been Volume only with 3 minis)
          HG = builder?

Not sure of the encircled N, though.

the T3M is actually VT3M, the V is obscured by one of the neck holes, VT3M = Volume, tone, 3 mini switches
id say the N in a circle is for nitro finish since it is white

Any good ideas how to check for a nitro finish? I know it should be softer, but I'm not sure I want to jam a fingernail into it and see...

I think the fact that is over 20 years old and its not yellow could be a good indication that its not a poly finish, but thats just me

The N could mean something else, thought nitro was as good a guess as any

                Cheers, nice axe btw

It is kind of yellow, but I think that was probably on purpose...

A little more research seems to say that HG is for Hermila Gutierrez, who did assembly in the Ontario shop.

                      See, for example: http://www.jcfonline.com/threads/288...hlight=hermila
