  • 24.75 time to move on???

    Hey All JC duders,
A quick question for the old schoolers, or new I guess, doesn't matter. I have 2 Jackson Fusions that I play daily and are both 20+ years old. Anyway, I have been haggling with trading up, or selling both to get a DK1 or a Soloist. Should I do it? Is there any major difference? I have no trouble going from 25.5, to 24.75, or even 7 string for that matter. I know you all are going to say do what feels best, but I have a hard time keeping them, and having a hard time getting rid of them. Will I regret it? I hate these kind of decisions. I would rather keep them all!! But kids and money say otherwise. Thanks in advance.

I love my fusions, soloists, and DK-1. I would say try out a soloist or DK-1 first before trading especially if you are used to a 24.75 scale versus the 25.5 scale. I can't really tell the difference but then again I am not that good of a player either, I am just a collector/wanna be player who practices a hell of a lot. Hit me up if you ever consider trading for a soloist or DK-1, I may just be interested, I love to trade.

I have other guitars, just jonesing for a nice USA Jackson. I have been playing for 30 years and think I have earned a nice USA but not sure if I can let my fusions go. I can do things on them that is just not normal. lol I can do the same stuff on the 25.5's, just not as impromptu as with the fusions. I just need to take my balls out of my purse and make a decision. lol Thanks for the invite to trade I may do that. I appreciate it. Cheers!

There's much more to a neck then just scale length. Which is why I am trying to get rid of the DKMG that I just got at the end of September. I hate that neck profile.

From personal experience. There is only one guitar that I do not want to get rid of... or at least, I want to get rid of the others first. Everything else is easily replaceable -with the exception of memorabilia. Never found anything like it before I bought it. Have been unable to find anything that can duplicate it since I bought it.
Its an '86 Jackson Dinky (all documents call it a Strat, not a Dinky). My Soloist doesn't compare. My other Jackson Dinky's don't do it. ESP, Schecter, Charvel, Carvin, BC Rich (both old and new). Hundreds of guitars through the years. Nothing comes close. It would need to be a large sum of cash for me to part with it, particularly if I still had others to get rid of.

        So, the question becomes:
Why did you keep them so long. What is so special about these 2. And could any Fusion do the same, or is there something about these in particular.
You have to answer that one before any of us could even begin to tell you do dump it.

Then of course, you get into the logistics of owning 2 vs 1.
If a string breaks in the middle of a gig, you grab the other right away or take a twenty minute break to change and stretch a string on a Floyd. With a 2nd guitar, you can teach your son to play or have random jam sessions when your boss comes over and says 'oh, i didn't know you played. I play too. Johnson, I am looking for someone to oversee the China expansion, its a big pay increase, let's do a couple songs.' Leaving one at the studio while having one at home. Any number of scenarios.

I hear ya barking piano man. I have never purchase a new Jackson. All of my necks, on my Fusion's, and my Charvel are absolutely perfect. Mainly due to my ultra anal attention to detail beyond obsession. lol I have never had anyone touch them but me. Never had any crowns or levels, nothing. I play them from end to end so I have never had a fret job in my life. Except for my 7 string which had a high fret, but I have 8 guitars and they are all perfect, except for a few wanted pickup swaps. I just got done reading the horror custom shop stories and decided that I will keep what I have, or trade with one of you guys trusting the guitar wil have no issues. All of my guitars have dings and scratches because they all get the shit beat out of them daily but still play flawless. I guess the moral of my story is you don't know what you got until it gone. So I'll keep them for now. Here's a pic of them for fun, they are not USA but wanted to post my question here because you guys have the USA's. Mine are the first 2 in the thread. Thanks for thoughts.

So do you just have GAS? If you like those guitarsid stay stick with them. Find a way to budget a new axe. If you are done with them yeah move them for something fresh.

I would get rid of my fusions

Just make sure if you trade that you get what you REALLY want. Also play the hell out of what you're going to trade for before finalizing the deal if possible. In my personal opinion a USA Soloist or USA Dinky is a better guitar than a Fusion. That's just my taste. That being said you might hate the Soloist or Dinky. It's all a matter of what you like.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

If you like the 25.5 scale the USA models are a step up in my opinion. I've had the fusion, sl2 and dk2 all with blocked trems but I never could gel with the longer scale so I play sls and kv2t now - short scale and hard tails. I had to sell my two fusions to get the sl2 and after the initial honeymoon was over I regretted it. I stumbled across a sls and after playing it NEW it was the one though. If you want a new guitar that's cool but I would recommend holding on to the fusions until at least a good amount of time has passed with the new ones. It's really hard to get your old guitars back.

+1 I've regretted trading and selling a few of mine as well.

It would be a cold day in hell before I would sell my battered up 92 Fusion H-H professional its that good of a guitar.
It does everything well plus I've had it for a long time and its never let me down.

I have a Fusion EX import, and I also owned a USA Fusion that I bought off the board here some years ago. All my other Jacksons are and have been 25.5" scale.

One thing to consider, for all it's worth, is that a longer scale guitar will intonate better. It's not that noticeable, really, but...... Personally, I enjoy the wider spacing on the upper frets with a 25.5.

Besides, if you want a shorter scale there's always Epiphone.....

                              I've had 3 different Fusion H-H's :

One had the takeuchi floyd with the big steel block, and even came with a "vintagish" J wound SH-6 and a similar era '59 in the neck. The guitar sounded terrible and I still don't know why, I even rewired the whole thing and tried a few other duncans in the bridge, no improvement.

One had the standard jt-580lp block, all black, perfect body, frets and neck as it was never played but it was properly stored so not a hint of rust or oxidation. I had no regrets selling it, it didn't feel or sound like a good guitar... not even mediocre.

One had gold hardware, and a cheap die-cast trem block. It sounded, and played amazing. Why? I have no idea, probably should not have sold it. I scored a new DV8-r at the time and that thing blew it away quite easily and had a more comfortable neck and bridge despite being 25.5". My heart is/was set on a USA fusion or a Warrior Pro which came in 24.75 scale. I got sidetracked, and prices are way up so that plan is on hold.

There are lots of fusions out there for sale but some are way better than others. I wouldn't give a good one up easily, you can always find them to buy but you might not find any quite like what you already own.
