I'd think long and hard about that one.

So these look like the short knobs I mentioned earlier. This option will only cost you $12.50 to try out.

They won't move the knob, but would they OMIT the knob? Or would this count as a "change" and put you in Custom Shop territory?

Interesting. How much shorter are these knobs compared to the Jackson USA's? Also, will they fit all the way down the volume knob shaft?

You make a good point, but I have a feeling that they will only do what's on the order form. Omitting a knob isn't an option listed. I could ask Matt, just to try and see.

Omitting a knob will do the exact same thing as moving it more than a 1/2 inch....Full on custom shop build.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

+1 This honestly looks like the best and most economical option. I personally wouldn't EVER drill into one of my three USA Jackson's.

I'd also like to try a DK1, simply for having more room with the knobs lowered on the body. Unfortunately, I can't find any store in Southern Cal. that has one to try. I wonder if I can get into the Fender showroom in L.A.?

Call and make an appointment. They're usually pretty cool about it from what I hear. 480-596 -9690

Awesome! Thanks, guys! I heard it was closed to the public, so I was considering calling my old guitar teacher, who is endorsed by Jackson with his own model, but I don't want to bother him with my problems.

If your problem is that your picking hand is sweeping across the volume knob, causing the volume to rotate down while you're playing, here's how I soved that on my Charvel 5FX:
I unscrewed the set screw on the knob, lifted the knob off, put two O-rings over the stem of the volume pot, put the knob back on then pushed down on it which compressed the O-rings a bit against the guitar body themselves and the bottom of the knob, while still pusing down, I tightened the set screw, keeping the knob in place and not allowing the O-rings to decompress. Doing this tightened up the pot's ability to rotate. Now my picking hand still contacts it, but does not move it, and the knob is still 100% functional for when I want to use it for its intended purpose.
That was one hell of a run on sentence
Hope that you at least give it a try and save yourself from drilling into your guitar!
Oh and this mod is completely invisible as the bottom of the knob is concave and the O-rings seat nicely in there!

or wire the pot in reverse?

Just to clarify my issue: for rhythm guitar, I'm fine. When I solo, I tend to plant/ buttress my picking hand onto the body via my picky and fourth finger in order to better control how I pick and where on the string I pick. The Soloist doesn't give me much room to anchor my hand comfortably to the guitar body, and it feels like I'm constricted. Like I'm having to run in shoes that are a size too small for me. I could raise my fingers off the body, but then then I get stress in my wrist, and my picking isn't nearly as precise. I actually haven't experienced the slowly turning down the volume knob phenomenon.

It's a comfort issue as well as a performance issue, for me.

I think I would temporarily pull your volume pot into the control cavity, and do a mock-up of the volume knob 1/2" back with an inventory dot or something, then see if that 1/2" is going to be enough clearance. The way you describe your issue, I don't think a shorter knob is going to help.

Or go with a DK1 custom select instead of a SL2H custom select?

                                re: volume knob 1/2" back

Does the SL2 Pro have it compared to the SL2H?
