Maybe, it does look like the SL1 knobs are closer to the strings than the DK1 on account of the 5-way switch / 3-way switch control layout differences. Hmm.

If I'm right about the two, then I can gauge both at the fender showroom.

So if the DK1 control layout works for you, I would think the SL2H would as well (H-H with a 3-way switch). The SL2H can be used as a base model for custom selects.

Yeah I give up, there seems to be too much variation from year to year / model to model / country to country. :dunno:

Well, if I can get in the showroom, I'll try a DK1, SL2 Pro and SL-2H just to see.

I sent a PM, but I'm not sure it went through.

I called the number, but they were unaware of appointments being available to the public at the Burbank art showroom. They were trying to send me to the Corona visitors center. That place is just a gift shop attached to the factory right? Confused. Just want to try different USA Jackson's...

I'd try playing a Soloist with a non-recessed trem before modifying a guitar. The old Soloists with non-recessed trems from the '80s had the bridge sitting very high off the body. Not only was hitting the volume knob not an issue, but there was a HUGE amount of pull-back space available for the trem--just as much as you'd get on most recessed trems. The angle of the neck corresponded to the trem height, so the action was just as low as on any other Jackson. One problem you might find is that anchoring your fingers on the body for leads the way you do might be more difficult, since the body sits a ways below the strings. It's basically similar to a Les Paul that way, so that's a good basis for comparison.

Another thing: current non-recessed Soloists don't look like they have the trem sit as high as on the '80s guitars, nor is the neck as sharply angled.

Well, I'm going to have a tough time finding a non-recessed soloist to try, because the current ones are all special order custom ones. None of the current USA models have this.

                      Ebay is your friend.

My current prized possessions are an '85 Soloist and an '89 Charvel 750xl. Both proudly non-recessed.
