  • SL2H-MAH - Disabled Tone Pot - BINGO!

OK I'm sure almost everyone knows this but Im so stoked I have to tell someone and my wife really doesn't care.

So anyone on the fence about disabling the tone pot in their SL2H MAH should at least try it out. I have done it on other guitars with great result and finally decided to check it out on my new SL2H (which was sounding a bit muddy in my EVH 5150 III Combo). Welll.. I now have a fire breathing dragon. Should have done it the first day I got it. Do people really like those 250k pots in there? I don't find the JB to be THAT brittle. Why Jackson? At some point I may just convert the pot to a no load just to have some tweaking if I need it.

Have a good weekend! ..I'm going back to my "new" guitar!

Depends on the guitar. My SL1T is a fairly bright guitar and the 250K tone pot works great.

Interesting. Yeah I've had the opposite experience with pups being too bright/brittle with no tone pot. I'd go with the no-load pot just because I have OCD and really can't have Fisher Price toaster controls on my guitar. Or, a 500K might be a good option. I've got 500K's with both of my JB guits.

I haven't used a tone pot in 20 years. lol Always sounded like mud to me. Most amps have a bass and presence, there is your tone pot(s).

I had the same experience with my SL2H. Wired it for 2 volumes and much prefer it that way.

No tone pot in my SL2H. Moved the volume to where the tone was. Infinite improvement.

I'm using 500k pots in most of my guitars. The 250k tone pots can make the sound rather dark and muddy.

I have CTS 500K pots in everything I own that has passive electronics.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

No tone, 1M volume. I'm a crazy SOB like that.
