Floyd Rose Pro

I'm considering installing a Floyd Rose Pro on my SL2H. This is similar to the original floyd only the string spacing is a bit narrower and the profile is lower. It's the latter that I'm looking for because the fine tuning screws on the original floyd that is in there now always seem to get in the way. I just don't like how high they sit.

Does anyone have experience with the Pro version of the Floyd and/or has anyone fitted their Jackson with one?

Never done this, but if you're looking for angled fine tuners I'd suggest you get a Gotoh Floyd Rose. They're also much cheaper and still made form steel.

For some reason, I think someone stated awhile back that Floyd Pro is actually a little larger and doesn't fit too well into an OFR route, but I might be incorrect.

Anyway, how are you hitting the fine-tuning screws? Your palm should rest about where the posts are and not that far back on the Floyd.

+1. I believe the body routes are different for a Floyd Pro vs. OFR.

FR Pro trems require a MUCH deeper route than a traditional OFR because of the design of the saddles. It's partly why the fine tuning screws are further out of the way. I played around w a FR Pro on a bolt-on and even though it had a recess cut into the body, I had to shim the neck quite a bit so the trem could sit high enough so the rear part of the trem could clear the route. It was pretty jacked up IIRC. For a neck-thru like a soloist, you'd had to route that recess even more. Not worth it IMO. I'd try a Gotoh trem as mentioned above w the angled tuners or *gasp* try a JT6 trem. The JT6 hd the barrel fine tuners that were tucked away and it had a slightly narrower string spacing like the Pro.

I would adjust my playing technique before cobbling up the body or go with a Gotoh but the string spacing will be the same as an OFR.
The LO pro needs a deeper route as stated earlier.Some routing to each side of the rear route will be needed for it to fit as well.
If your hand is hitting the fine adjusters you must be the size of bigfoot.

Please forgive me for reviving this but I've been out of the loop for some time (health issues) and haven't posted here in years. I installed a FRP into a RR3 about six years ago and I can tell you that the rout for it is completely different than what was in it (licensed Floyd). The rear of the rout is deeper because it sits lower in the body and shorter (area on top, at rear). Here's a pic of the rout after I had painted the guitar and had started with the rubbing compound. The putty is on the holes to prevent water from getting to the wood during wet sanding.

I am glad I changed it out as the lo pro just works with the way I position my left hand. The thing stays in tune just about forever and it works beautifully.

Thanks man. Sorry so late in responding but I got called out of town on work and just got back this afternoon. The first thing I did was pull out my RR3 and jam for an hour.

The wife wasn't home yet, otherwise I'd have been playing her.
