  • jackson bolt on guitars

Does anyone know when they started making jackson bolt on guitars? I thought it was 1986 but not sure.

Good question. Don't know the answer.
But I think you should also clarify which answer you really want.
Jackson bolt on vs Jackson Dinky - which is what i think you are actually thinking about. Dinky came about around '86. But bolt on strats were available before.

or Jackson owned Charvel bolt on
or Jackson replacement necks and bodies

Yea, I meant the jackson strat bolt on. I thought 86 as well and have never seen on before 86. There is a guy on ebay that is selling an 85 jackson neck and I didn't know that they made bolt on guitars until 86. when it comes to the bolt ons were they made at the san dimas plant...we'll the first 505 of them or were they made in onterio, CA. acccording to jackson the first 505 bolt on jacksons were made in san dimas. Again I am talking about bolt on strats. I have two of them.

Occasionally you see early bolties with the '85 style logo, but I'm not sure of the significance.

If the neck feel good, if the guitar plays great and if you click with it, who cares where it was made. San Dimas or Ontario. Same guys making them, just at a different location. I'll never understand why some moron feels the need to spend double the $$ just to show off and say " I have a San Dimas made" guitar Honestly, I think it's the (I got the bigger dick syndrome) just like the idiots that have to have monster trucks

Well a lot of sellers ask double for them, but I don't see a lot of buyers lining up to pay double.

I have two 86 jacksons bolt ons and they have the same feel as my 84 and 85 charvels. all four are great guitars and will never sell them. we'll I can't see very well due to diabetes and may be going blind so if that happens I'll probably sell them if I can't see the fretboard. san dimas or onterio they are great guitars. I have notice that old charvels and older jacksons meaning 86 bolt-ons are hard to find especially with rael floyds.

the last handful of the CHARVEL plated guitars made in '85 had Jackson logo's on the headstock. & no they wont pay double but they will pay more. for a while the price of jackson bolt ons was in the toilet. I wouldnt believe the 505 thing, there are enough examples of guitars under 1505 dated late 86 early 87, and some well after 1505 dated '86. IMO that 1001-1505 is where the paperwork got written up not necessarily where it was built or at least not completed. & really its not worth faking that shit w a jackson.

I have 1499 and it is dated Sept 86 but was ordered in 85.I would say the body and neck were left over SD Charvel parts.
Just a Charvel with a Jackson logo.
                    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Interesting. I guess I need a Charvel-plated Jackson strat to complete my collection!

Here's an example of a Jackson strat with an '85 logo:

I've got the "Reflecting Sphere" Escher with a Jackson plate and the '86 logo. I suspect his has a Jackson plate and was an '86 the same as mine (DRL informs me there were six made, all around the same time). I wonder what it all means?

Here's my Reflecting Sphere '86 logo:

As a side note, this is probably the only seller in history with an '86 advertising it as an '87.

I don't know for sure but even into the late 80's you see bodies that have the SD style contours and routes. was that something you could still order, was it something they just did just because they could? would most people even bother to order that back in the 80's.

Its really hard to track down when these jems were made and I think all jackson bolt ons were great guitars up til the end of 89. The only thing I didn't care for was 87 to 89 because most of the guitars they made they put those licenced floyds called the JT-6. in 89 they put another licenced floyd on them that was better but still didn't care for them as much. The bodys and necks were pretty much the same I think those JT-6 bridges were junk. I had one and I hated it ans sold the guitar to some guy in japan. The jackson bolt ons from 86 or earilar were the best ones. just my opinion. iF anyone has a 86 or earlier jackson bolt strat on that want to sell let me know. looking for strat,1 hum, maple or ebony board, floyd. Anyway, san dimas or onterio made they are all really nice guitars. Oh, I guess some jackson bolt-ons were made in 85 but not many. How do you post pictures on this. If I knew how I would post pics of my san dimas guitars for eye candy.
