When the DEF LEPPARD summer tour kicked off Monday, June 23 in West Valley City, Utah, the band's fans in attendance were among some of the first to see the brand new Jackson X-Stroyer guitar, custom built for DEF LEPPARD lead guitarist Phil Collen. Collen decided to showcase the new guitar during co-headlining trek with KISS.

Collen's original guitar was popularized by the iconic DEF LEPPARD music videos for the hit singles "Rock Of Ages", "Foolin'" and "Photograph". Collen plans on playing his new, custom Jackson during those songs while on tour.

When asked about his new Jackson X-Stroyer, Collen stated: "This guitar isn't an exact carbon copy of my Ibanez Destroyer; it's aesthetically based on the one I played in DEF LEPPARD's classic videos 'Photograph', 'Rock Of Ages' and 'Foolin'' in the 1980s. Somehow that guitar seemed to take on a life of its own with the fans when they saw it in the videos. However, my new Jackson PC X-Stroyer is the exact opposite with regards to the body outline/perimeter. The X-Stroyer has a mahogany body with a maple top that looks solid black from a distance. But then when you get up close, you can see the beautiful wood grain of the Trans Black finish. It has DiMarzio pickups, a Floyd Rose tremolo with FU Tone titanium block and saddles and a Jackson Sustainer/Driver pickup same as I have in my Jackson PC1s. My X-Stroyer has a very thick neck, which also helps the tone.

"This guitar feels and sounds expensive. The intent while building the new instrument was to have a body shape that invokes the 'spirit/enthusiasm' of my classic model, but with a twist. Mike Shannon, Jackson senior master builder, really went overboard for me on this one and I think it's the best Jackson guitar I've ever played."

Jackson has announced plans to release another Phil Collen signature model that will be available to the public in August. The Jackson PC1 Stealth, a limited-edition model from the prolific guitarist's PC line with Jackson, will have two versions of this model manufactured, with only 25 of each currently being built in Corona, California.

So is this going to be a production model then, seeing the 'plans to release another model'? Or does that just mean another PC1?

Side note: why is it seemingly impossible to get the sustainer bobbin any other colour? Never graphics, no colours, always flat black..

Not sure; this is the only info out there at the moment.

From what I understand, the floodgates were sorta opened after I pulled that stunt with Fender Legal.

A few previous 'untouchable' things have been approved and seem to be ok now. When they realized that they weren't doing stuff they had done before the buyout, and when it comes to the cost of a custom and losing that $5k+ sale to any other company willing to do something they wouldn't do anymore, I think it changed their mind. At least that was a good part of my argument. Why lose a high dollar trademark sale to a non US Market ESP CS order when there was nothing holding a Fender owned Jackson to produce an unlicensed guitar they used to make that Fender never decided to defend? (in this case, Gibson, but the same still applies..)

All I said was that I wanted to build my dream guitar based off a guitar I already owned that was made by Jackson and that I would have to go to a non-US Market ESP order to actually get it.

My argument was solid. I'm glad someone there actually bothered to read it.

It'd be nice if that's the case for more than a one-off, or artist guitar. We'll see how strict they continue to be I guess, or for how long FMIC even hold on to Jackson...

Looks as if there are two Sustainer/Driver pickups.

Man, I dig that a LOT. Very close to an Explorer. I would totally custom order one of those body styles, if an option.

Much cooler than his sig model IMO....would be even cooler w/sharkfins (yeah I know the Ibanez had blocks....just saying) !!

I so fucking wish J/C would make more guitars w/fatter necks!!

I like the body shape a lot. Not usually a fan of Phil's other specs though.

I'm pretty sure this explains it, a PC1 Stealth will be the new model, not the X-Stroyer.

LOL, I'm sure it is expensive to anyone but Phil. Looks wicked pissah though.

Is his hair orange or is that the lighting?

Jackson now steals Ibenhad's designs as retaliation for the Warrior ripoff. awesome.

And the Stealth? Will it be like the old one?

And the Sustainer comes in a hum format with a dummy coil to fill the hole. H-H-S would look stupid.

I dunno, I heard of several previous "no-gos" being approved shortly after I pulled my stunt. Stratheads and a few body types started receiving oks. I dunno if that's ever going to change, but things always change, so you never know.
