Very Old NGD - J2375

Had this for awhile - just never seemed to NGD it - so here goes. San Dimas Soloist Custom J2375 in Red / Blue Pearl. Ordered in June 86, logged end of August 86, and shipped to Mother's Music Canada. This guitar is definitely not a virgin, and has the patina to prove it, but has a great neck and overall "feel". As hopefully you can see in the Work Order, this was originally a 3 Tite Soloist....I know 3 previous owners and it was routed for a bridge humbucker l-o-n-g before them. The final placement of the new hum is much closer to the bridge than normal, obviously a major factor in it's monster tone (although it probably does add a little more bite to the J80). Also, the dots were a $75.00 deduct on the order - and I love dots! I have been back and forth about repairing the hum rout and re-installing a bridge single coil - but I just can't commit. Maybe someday. Enjoy the pix!

Wow, bad ass. I wish that I could hear it. If it sounds great why mess with it? You may find yourself having it rerouted for a hum yet again down the road.

Nice! And yeah, I'd say it's probably best left as it is, simply because you'd need to refin to go back to the 3TITE which is more of a mod than the rout. I'm guessing the humbucker rout was so far back to completely cover the sc rout?

Yeah Ian you're correct.....they jacked around with a hum template until the slanted / tabbed single coil rout was (barely) covered. This left the pickup ring touching the Kahler base. The pickup has to be at least 3/16" rearward.

Mother's Music was the first place I ever saw Jacksons for sale. I still remember being blown away by a soloist with a nebula style graphic.

That is really nice Mark, I really like that fretboard too. I sure do wish that build sheet you had went down another 10 digits to show my XPL (J2366) and single hum soloist (J2365) order date and destination.

Yeah me too. I got the Work Order and partial Log from a previous owner - NOT the guy I bought the guitar from. The previous owner "knew somebody" at Jackson that would get him work orders / log sheets for a "fee". All double-super-secret stuff, and probably after the "first one thousand log sheet" controversy with Lane / Witte. Anyway, to Lee's point.....it took a lot of talking to get the info I got on J2375, and I suppose if I paid good money for info I might be somewhat protective of it, BUT I would guess there's a lot of info out there that some people are hoarding. For what reason I do not know. If you look around long enough, you find pieces of the San Dimas "J" logs above 1000, and even pieces of the SD "RR" logs. Maybe it's just me and Lee (I doubt it), but these guitars are now old enough where historical documentation DOES matter - and I love this stuff. I know - at least since JCF 2002 - that this topic surfaces every few years with little resolution. Maybe it's time to beat a dead horse....again.

Cool one. Shame about the bridge hum, but unfortunately many guitars from the era have been modified. Looks like the nut may have been replaced somewhere along the line, too? Anyway, keep her as is, and enjoy.

Love that POS nut....I was able to lower the price $50 because of it . Yeah, that's a previous owner deal that will be replaced at the next string change......

I just printed out page 25 from that first 1000 log book to put in the case with J0701 which happens to be a Student bass painted in candy apple magenta and was shipped to Venemans. That was some killer info and just having that makes the bass all the more collectible to me. None of that info I knew before and feel that it is so awesome to have.
