  • worth the trade?

    Hey guys,

I have listed my KE2 for sale or trade on ebay classifieds here in germany. It is a red/black bevels Kelly with BKP-pickups made in 2003.

Now, some guy contacted me and wants to trade his Ibanez JEM777 or a Fusion USA for my Kelly. Whats your opinion? Is one of those guitars worth the trade? I just played one or two Ibanez-guitars at all and already have a DK1 which is very similar to a Fusion. Is it a good trade or not? Unfortunately I don't have any pictures yet, so let's assume the guitars are in good condition ^^

    Cheers,
    Stefan

A original, vintage JEM 777 (SP? DY?) in good condition would be a fair trade. There are a lot of counterfeits of those around, though. Also a lot of them have condition issues so that's a big assumption. Some of the new JEMs are MIK.

I'd also yank those BKP's out of there to tip the scales a bit more.

Here are some pics of the Ibanez-guitar. I am still waiting for the Fusion-pics.

The condition of the Jem looks worse than my Kelly. The Kelly rarely got played and was more sitting in its guitarstand ^^. He said, the frets got dressed. Lets see what the Fusion looks like.

Here are some pics of that USA Fusion, a very nice guitar for its age. Bad side is, je1500 not connected anymore and 50mm SD-PU. I'd say Kelly without BKPs for that Fusion. I really like the Eerie Dess-color

To echo axe, at this point I think I've seen more fake 777's in the last 5 years than real ones. Make sure you know what you're looking at.

I actually stay away from Jems for that very reason.

yeah, I got some pictures now and the JEM looks kinda used. My Kelly is now 12 years old but was barely used. Besides that the USA Fusion seems to be ok. I already tried to post the pics but seems like an admin has to unlock my post. The JE1500 is not connectec and he has installed 50mm SD but I told him I would trade guitars if I can keep the BKPs from the Kelly

I don't know. Get what you like better, but a KE2 usually goes for more (~$200) than a Fusion.

                  Fusion is a shorter scale.

                  Fusion is a bolt on.

I have many fusions but I like those features.

                  Get what you like best.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Fusion would be 20+ years old. Make sure the frets aren't worn out.

                    Scratch that...looks like they're fine.

the JE1500 is missing and the headstock is damaged, I think I'll keep my Kelly ^^

I agree keep the Kelly in this case.
Why the guy painted the trem on the Jem is beyond me.
Jems are some of the most faked guitars out there and if you don't know your Jems its best to stay away.

I am under the impression that a true Jem's pickguard has the exact same reveal of the body around the lower horn and this one doesn't look right to me and I would say that Fusion isn't in the same league with your Kelly so i would keep the Kelly or try and trade it for a more comparable guitar.
