  • Floyded san dimas student Rhoads

Is this a particularly scarce combination?
Seems like it would be an oddity...but they almost made thousands of SD RRs.

From what I understand, Floyds had to be provided by the customer as they were not carried by Jackson themselves

Floyds are more rare than Kahlers or STs, but I wouldn't translate that to high value. Especially on a student model. It adds a little value, but not big bucks by any means.

And, yes, for custom orders, Floyds had to be sent by the customer/dealer to Jackson back in the SD era. Kramer had the exclusive distribution rights for Floyds back then, so no other guitar manufacturer could get them directly.

That's what I was thinking based on the cavity cover.

Hunter, where'd you get the pic of that Rhoads? It's now on eBay from a seller in Florida: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1985-Jackson...item3aabec58d7

And yeah, originally a Kahler, if you look at the close up pics you can see the original Kahler route and holes still there...

Yeah I knew it was too good to be true . I noticed the huge route after I posted. A Dimas wouldn't normally have a pull up route either. I'm sure it plays awesome . My string thru 85 Rhoads student plays awesome.

Here's the first one made. Would not be surprised if the first guitar is the same as the second one. Can't see a white guitar looking that good on stage with all the black leather KISS were wearing at the time.....plus there's no logo on the headstock either.

Plus he owned a black student neck hardtail as well and most likely. it was the first of its kind too!

Of course, this opens up a whole can of worms regarding the authenticity of the guitars Vinnie sold at Julien's Auctions in NY last month....but I ain't gonna go there.....unless probed!!!

Are you kidding? those first ones still have the original strings with which he showed Jimmi Hendrix how to play "Voodoo Chile"

Hi, new here. I had a San Dimas RR Student (serial # just over 1100) with a gold surface-mount Floyd, gold tuners too. I bought it from the first owner so I have no idea if he was able to custom order it that way or not.

If he provided the Floyd... yes.
