  • 1988 Lightning Sky Soloist

Courtesy of eBay UK. Up popped a 1988 Soloist in Lightning Sky... At around what I was considering spending on a 7 string... guess I'm not getting a 7 string...

In real life it's in actual focus

Close up of the front, there are a couple of chips that have been covered with marker pen. JT-6 has been replaced with a Schaller Floyd. The bits of the JT-6 are in the case.

It has a serial number, appropriate for a 1988 Ontario built guitar I believe

Nice 'clean' headstock, just Jackson and 'Made in USA' on there. It's also in focus in real life

Round the back, a few chips and scratches, I can't see any evidence of any big repairs

Back of the neck, a couple of scuff marks, once again nothing serious apparent

The bottom half of the case. (it does have a top half too). This case has seen some serious use, and is in need of a dang good clean on the outside. The inside is in decent nick though.

I'll add some more pictures (hopefully better ones). I had a look inside the cavities and everything looks clean. Big metal shield in the control cavity (the guy said it had been rewired, looks pretty tidy to me). Manufacturing label in the trem cavity.

Looks great! So that's a Kahler stringlock on there? Hard to see.

As to the playing, I gave it a quick go and it seems fine to me 8~)
Although it's hard to judge as it has 11's on it!

Awesome! How much did you get it for? I got a PC-1 for just over a grand recently, seems like it's a buyer's market on ebay UK.

825 in the end. One of those snap decisions when I saw it.

Yeah that is a great price in the UK. Lovely guitar! What are the pickups like on that? I'm assuming that, being a USA guitar, the pickups are high quality?

From what I can gather, they were manufacturing their own at that point in time. Possibly (probably) wound by Abigail Ybarra (he says, trying to boost the value of his guitar).
I might have a look for markings on the bottom if I'm feeling brave when I change the strings...
