    I misread the clock.
I just saw that one today. I thought I had 3 days. It was 3 hours.

    OOPS.

Not that it matters, it sold for more than I was willing to go.

Never saw it - gotta link?
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

It was/is in pretty rough shape. F'dup pull up route and snapped off headstock but I was planning to do a full restore. My only real concern was going to be keeping the original binding and fixing the headstock but now I don't need to worry about it. Just hope whomever got it doesn't part it out.

If I had 3 days like I thought --- I was going to request pictures of certain things. That may have made the difference as to if I would have spent more.
But based on the info available, it was just too much for me.

            So is that J0377 then?

Never even saw that one. My ebay search 'misses' stuff sometimes, and I have no idea why. But anyway, to get that guitar pro restored and refinished would be a grand and I've paid waaaaay less for 1985 SD Soloists, albeit not pre-J1000..

Oh I could so fix that. It is not as bad as it looks. The repair would involve re-breaking the headstock and cleaning the crap out of it, re do the route for the floyd.

Yep that would have put me around $1600 total cost. Not a bad price for a very early purple Floyd. There are a shit ton of black/white/red ones but purple is pretty scarce. This was J0412

Yeah I think preserving the original binding would be the only tricky part.
Oh well, maybe I will run into a better one someday.

Well, you can't really say you were beat by $10, the top bidder may have had a max bid of $100 or more higher, he just beat your last bid, that's all.

sorry that thing is a mess, and IMHO not worth the closing bid. might someday be a great player but collector wise worthless, early serial or not thats a basket case. & i agree 100% w Ian, you can find SD era soloist under or around $1000 in NICE shape.

My opinion....you should be much more selective in what you spend your money on. Ordinary guitars will never hold their value....Regardless of Serial number. Go for the unique, special ones.....It's not about quantity, but QUALITY.

What would be so bad about parting it out? It's not like they can get the neck off the body, and the hardware's probably shit anyway due to the age and abuse.

You should send Ian a pm. Perhaps he will sell you his purple sd soloist???

Hi, I'm new in this forum and just joined looking for information on my new J0412 SD. Yes, I'm the lucky guy who won that auction!!! Let me say you didn't miss by $10, my max bet was on $800. I'm a guitar collector from Chile and a pearl blue 1985 SD Custom Shop was the holy grial for me, been looking for it from years until I've found this Purple no Ebay, so I sayd WTF, I will restore it and go with that project. I'm greatly surprised it was not as in bad shape as I imagine on the visuals. After cleaning the rust the HW is 100% OK and all original. Pickups are original as well, Dimarzio on the HB and custom jackson on the singles. Original Made in Germany Floyd Rose (of course will need re-routing). I will restore it with the best Luthier we have in Chile, but sorry to say, the Purple will go away. Attached a picture of how it should looks like after restoration:

Will keep you updated on the progress and no hard feelings please :-)
                              Cheers
